How does changing the length affect the resistance of the wire
(nickel chromium 30 swg)?

Hypothesis

I hypothesize that changing the length of the wire would do some minor
changes to the resistance of the wire.
Because I think that extending the length of the wire would make the
electrons from the battery travel slower to the component as it takes longer for
them to move, creating resistance in the wire.

Variable Factor Description
Independent Length The length of the wire
needs to be changed to
carry out the experiment.
Dependent Resistance The amount of resistance
would change to every
different length.
Fixed (1)

Battery Voltage (3 volts) So that every experiment
would have the same
voltage.
Fixed (2) Wire I should use the same type
of wire, same shape and
the same thickness.
Fixed (3) Time (10 seconds each) For every experiment, it
should take the same
amount of time to test
each one.
Fixed (4) Equipment I should use the same
equipment so the test
would be fair.

Method

1. Arrange your equipment to match this diagram.
2. By following your data sheet, measure and cut the Nickel Chromium.
3. Attach the alligator clip to the measured Nickel Chromium and connect to
circuit.
4. Turn on the power pack to start the experiment.
5. Use the timer to time each experiment for 10 seconds.
6. Test the experiments 2 more times for a fair test.

Observations

1. The resistance is higher when the wire is shorter.
2. The current of the wire of 5 cm does not fit in.
3. While experimenting the wire did not increase in temperature.
4. The result of the resistance is consistent throughout all trials.
