Technology is constantly changing, everyday someone comes up with a new device or
system that will help to make our lives better and easier. Cell phones are one of these many
devices. Companies such as Apple, Samsung, and Nokia; just to name a few are always working
on ways to make the next cell phone model better than the last.
While skipping through the Tech section of CNN, one particular article stood out.
Written on Thursday, September 11, 2014 by Heather Kelly was the article entitled Hands-on
with the new Apple Watch. Couple days before the article was written Apple unveiled two new
iPhones and a smartwatch. This article is basically highlighting the fact that Apple has a new
smartwatch that is due to hit the market early next year. It talks about its features, the description.
Models of the iPhone 6s and the smartwatch were on display for everyone to see but there
was a limited amount of touching; well at least for the smartwatch. Models, fashion bloggers and
Gwen Stefani had for themselves some supervised time with the gadgets. The Apple workers put
the watch on peoples wrists and removed them too; the workers also had watches that actually
worked on their wrists so that they could demonstrate some of the features. Even though Apple
revealed the look of the watch and some of its features they remained silent about the watchs
memory, battery life and screen resolution.
Kelly then went into talking about the design of the watch. There are three different
versions of the square face watch available and each has its own color selection. All versions are
also available in two sizes: 38mm and 42mm and there are six strap styles. The watch also
comes with sporty plastic bands that would be ideal for that buyer who loves to work out. Just
by glancing, passersby might think its a regular timepiece, but looking closer you see the true

colors. Kelly feels that this could be a turn-off for potential customers no matter how cool the
features are.
In addition to this, customers should not be of the opinion that the Apple Watch can
entirely replace the use of a cell phone, because thats not how it works. For the watch to
perform some of its features the iPhone has to be nearby. Trying to type on the watch would be
impossible given the size of the face. To communicate from your wrist, you dictate messages to
the watch or use it as a walkie-talkie to chat with another Apple Watch wearer (Kelly, 2014). To
communicate Apple is hoping that customers utilize Digital Touch. They can doodle with their
fingertips, tap special series of vibrations or just send an actual heartbeat.
Also, the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, and other employees use the word intimate to
describe the watchs communication features. They use that word because only someone that the
customers know intimately will have an idea of the meaning of what another party is trying to
say. Apple still yet has to disclose information about the battery life. This could either mean one
of two things; they are trying to downplay the short battery life of they are still working on the
technical details to improve it before the release date. If a customer is going on an overnight trip
it would be ideal that he/she takes their charger along as it is expected that the watch gets some
charge every night. There is still a lot of information that has been withheld from customers, so
no one can really say anything about its fate.

To find the two additional Internet articles on the same topic I used the words mobile
technology articles and latest in mobile technology articles. This then gave me similar articles
to the before. To conduct this search Google and Yahoo were used as my search engines.
Mobile technology articles was entered in the Google search engine. Latest in mobile
technology articles was entered in the Yahoo search engine. Google was different from Yahoo
and vice versa. Personally, I think that Google was a better search engine than Yahoo. The
results that came up for Google were more on point and straightforward than the ones that came
up from the Yahoo search engine. Google came up with exact articles; Yahoo gave websites
where the articles could be found. Even though two different phrases were entered, there was
like a maximum of two links that were the same on both sides.
After typing mobile technology articles into the Google search engine and the results
came up; I chose one article from Gizmag.com. The article entitles Apple releases iOS 8 into
the wild was written on September 17, 2014 by Chris Wood. After reading the article I applied
TRAAP; time, relevance, authority, accurate and purpose to evaluate the article and source. This
article is current as it was written couple days ago on the 17
th
. It is seen as being relevant article
as it does relate to my topic. The author of Apple releases iOS 8 into the wild is Chris Wood, as
was mentioned before. Mr. Wood specializes in mobile technology for Gizmag. Chris would be
seen as qualified because he deals with this type of stuff on a regular basis so he seems fit. The
information given was accurate and trustworthy. This is so because other articles were written in
the same time frame and they basically provided the same information about this topic. Seeing
that other sources provide similar information which could be used as the test for accuracy. The
company's newly announced iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will run on the new software, but if you have
an iPhone 4s or newer, or own an iPad 2 onwards, you can download the update starting today (if

you don't get a notification, just navigate to Settings>General>Software (Wood, 2014). Chris
Wood providing readers with instructions also shows accuracy and his authority. This article was
written to inform readers about Apples new operating system. The material is objective as his
aim was to inform and it did just that.
The keywords used to find both articles on the CCBC database were the same as before. I
used latest in mobile technology to find the appropriate articles. All database providers were
utilized; the providers include but limited to: Business Source Premier, MasterFILE Premier,
MAS Ultra-School Edition, Education Source and so on. All providers were chosen so that there
could be a variety and increase in the number of articles that came up.
T-Mobile takes Wi-Fi voice and text everywhere written on September 11, 2014 by
Stephen Lawson was published on InfoWorld.com (Internet article). For many, mobile
technology increasing retail shopping was written by Jeffery Jones on May 1, 2014 (CCBC
article). Both articles were looked up on the internet so ease of access was not hard at all. Using
the internet takes less time than if I was suppose to go to the actually library or look through an
actual newspaper. As it relates the timeliness of both articles one was written in May and the
next in September. The timeliness of one may be of more substance than the other.
The article written by Lawson has less age; it is the more recent of the two. Stephen
Lawson covers mobile, storage and networking technologies for the IDG News Service. He can
therefore be seen as an expert in the technology field so this gives him authority. The Wi-Fi
calling feature lets users make high-definition calls over wireless LANs and keep those calls
going as they switch over to T-Mobile's LTE and 3G networks, CTO Neville Ray wrote in a blog
post on Wednesday (Lawson, 2014). Lawson utilized information from someones blog to assist

his article. In his article, Jeffrey Jones used figures obtained from a poll to prove his point and
back what he was saying. Numbers dont lie so by adding some to his article gave Jones some
authority. 18- to 29-year-olds are nearly twice as likely to say that mobile technology has led to
an increase (29%) rather than a decrease (15%) in their shopping at retail stores (Jones, 2014).
The above statement is an example of the results to the poll that Jones had conducted. With
regards to citing this document the APA format was used.
