I.ReflectiononMyGrowthasaMathematician

1)ReflectontheGrowthandDevelopmentGoalsthatyousetatthebeginningofthissemester.Selectand
restateTHREEgoalsinwhichyouhavemadethemostprogress.Describehowyouhaveprogressedtowards
thosegoals,andwhatyoustillneedtocontinuetoworkon.Bespecificanduseevidencetosupportyour
claims.Evidencecanbeanecdotesorpicturesofspecificassignments.

Goal#1:Mygoalthissemesteristogrowinthisareabyalwaysgivingevidenceonwhymymethod,or
answeriscorrect,orworks.

HowIhavegrowntowardthisgoal:IwritethroughallofmyworkinmynotebooksoIcanlookbackand
understandthesteps.

WhatIstillneedtoworkon:Mynotebookhasallofthesenotes,butallofmyworksheetsdont.Ijustdothe
problemsolvinginmymindandthenhavetothinkabouthowIsolveditlater.Iwanttokeepworkingonthis
problem.

Goal#2:Mygoalthissemesteristogrowinthisareabywritingcleaner,clearernotesthatareeasyto
understand,aswellaswritingthesamewaywhenworkingonmath.

HowIhavegrowntowardthisgoal:MynotesinmynotebookweregoodthefirstfewweeksonmathandIam
proudofthat.

WhatIstillneedtoworkon:Lately,Ihavebeenlazierwithmynotesandtheyhavenotbeenasclear.Ihope
toimproveonthesesothatIcanlookbacktothemwhenIneedit.

Goal#3:Mygoalthissemesteristogrowinthisareabyconnectingoldproblemstonewonesandusing
someofthesameprocesses.

HowIhavegrowntowardthisgoal:Ihavebeenmakingconnectionstoeachnewtopic,makingtheprocess
ofunderstandingitreallyeasyinclass.

WhatIstillneedtoworkon:Lately,wehavemovedontoanewtopicandIdidntfindalottorelateitto,soI
hopetofindmoreconnectionsinthefuture.

2)Tellmeaboutsomethingthathaschallengedyouorthatyoudidntunderstand.Whatdidyoudotowork
throughitandunderstandit?Howdidyoushowgritandhowdidyouperseverethroughit?Whatcouldyou
havedonebetterduringthistime?
Somethingthattooklongerformetounderstandwouldbesolvingasystemofequations.WhatIdid
wasIhadmygroupexplaintomewhattodoandIpaidattentiontothewormupinclass.Iunderstooditlater
andcompletedourassignments.WhatIcouldhavedonebetterwouldbeaskingquestionswhenIwashaving
trouble.Instead,IjustlookeduntilIunderstood.Itcouldhavebeeneasiertoaskquestions.

3)Whatareyoumostproudofandwhy?Bespecificanduseevidencefromclass.
Iammostproudofdoingallofmywork.Sincetherehavebeenonlyoneproject,andweareonlyjust
finishingitnow,Idontwanttoanswerthisquestionwiththeproject.Ihavedoneallofmyworkontime,unless
absentoneday,andturneditallin.Iwasproudofmyselfforkeepingupwiththework.

4)Howareyoufeelingaboutmathrightnow?Whathaschangedaboutthewayyouvieworthinkaboutmath
thissemester?Pleaseelaborate.
Idontthinkmyviewpointofthissubjecthaschangedsincethebeginningofthisclass.Iamhappywith
whatIhavelearned,butmathisstilljustasubjectatschool.

5)Describehowyourintelligencehasgrownthroughyoureffortsintheclass.
MyintelligencehasgrownthroughthisclassbecauseIhavelearnednewmathconcepts,orhavegotten
betteratthetopicstaught.

6)Describehowyoucontributedtothelearningenvironmentintheclassroom.Siteexamplesofhowyou
contributedtowholeclassdiscussionsandsmallgroupsdiscussions.Describehowthishasaffectedyour
abilitytolearnandgrowasamathematician.
IcontributedtothelearningenvironmentandtotheclassroombecauseIfrequentlywentuptopresent
myanswerstothewarmupandexplainedmyparticularmethod.Ialsoexplainedproblemstomygroup
membersiftheydidntunderstand.ThishasaffectedmyabilitytolearnandgrowbecauseIfounditeasierto
askquestionsandIgottoexplainproblemsandteachfellowclassmates.

7)Whataresomethingsthatyouarewonderingorarecuriousaboutbeyond,butrelatedto,someofthetopics
wehavediscussedinclass?Thesecouldbequestionsorcomments.
Iaminterestedinlearningmore,nomatterwhatthetopic.Iamfinewiththetopicweleftoffon,even
thoughgraphingisnotmyfavoritetopic.

II.ReflectiononLearning
1)WhatwerethemostsignificantorinterestingthingsthatyoulearnedintheMath3Bootcampunit?Please
explain.
ThemostsignificantthingthatIlearnedwasaboutsystemofequationsbecauseIlearneditonce,but
didntreallyunderstandit.AnotherthingthatwasgoodwaslearningaboutgraphinginequalitiesbecauseIdidnt
knowwhatkindofpointorlinetouseandnowIdo.

2)WhatdidyoulearnaboutExponents,Polynomials,RationalExpressionsorLinearFunctionsthatyoudidnot
knowatthebeginningoftheyear?.Howcouldtheseconceptsorideasbeusefultoyouinreallife?Explain
how/whenyoucanusethem.
Iwasalittlehazyonthesetopicsatthebeginningoftheyear.Theseconceptsareusefulforanyfuture
mathclasses.Iwoulduseitinreallifewhenmakingagraph(Icouldbemakingamarketingposteror
presentation)orusedatatoproveapoint.

3)HowcomfortabledoyoufeelaboutyourunderstandingoftheconceptsweexploredduringMath3
Bootcamp?Explain.Whatcouldyoudotoimproveyourunderstanding?
Ifeelverycomfortablewiththeconceptsandtopicsthatwecoveredinthisbootcamp.Iwasableto
explainthingstotheclassandtogroupmemberswithallofthetopics,andevenwhenIwasntsureofmy
abilitiesorhowtosolvetheproblem,IwouldgetenoughhelpsoIcould.WhatIcoulddotoimprovemyabilities,
oratleastkeepthemup,wouldbetotakeaminitesttocheckthatIdo,infact,knowhowtosolvethese
problems.

4)WhattopicswouldyouhavelikedtolearnmoreaboutduringMath3Bootcamp?
Iwouldhavelikedtodoalittlemoregraphingbecausenotonlyisitmyweakestpointinmath(my
perspective)butoneofmyleastfavoritetopicsinmathaswell.
