Identifying streams based on the presence of an Ordinary High Water Mark (OHWM) along with a defined bed and bank. Stream types were based on characteristics from the June 2007 guidance for jurisdictional determinations. Flagging of aquatic features in the field and mapping them using a Trimble Geo XH GPS unit capable of sub-meter accuracy. Transferring GPS files and differentially correcting files to be converted to ESRI shapefiles using GPS Pathfinder Office software. Creation of maps to calculate the area and/or lengths of potentially jurisdictional areas using ESRI ArcGIS software. It was designed to quantify wetland condition in terms of functional capacity and biological integrity. Use of Geographic Position Systems (GPS) with Geographic Information System (GIS) to locate, digitize, and map targeted wetland polygons. Over 800 assessments were completed in the states 32 major 8 digit hydrologic unit watersheds over the period of two summer sampling seasons. Collection of data on hydrology, soils, plants, and wildlife communities. Evaluation of the success and function of mitigated wetlands compared to natural or reference wetlands.
