Introductiontothelesson
Theteacherwillasktheclasstomovetothecarpetareabysaying,Okayclass,
wearegoingtostartourwritinglessontodayoveronthegreencarpet.
Startthelessonbysaying,Thismorningwearegoingtostartlookingatanew
typeofwriting."Teachershouldshowdifferentexampleofshortlettersonthe
overheadprojectorandreadthemtotheclass(2or3examples).Thenaskthe
studentsiftheyknowwhatthistypeofwritingiscalled.Takeanswersfromthe
studentsastheyraisetheirhands.Summarizetheiranswersbysaying,Yes,
theseareallletters."Askthestudents,"Whydopeoplewriteletters?"Summarize
answersbysaying,"It'sawaytotalkwithpeoplewhomaybefaraway."
Usetheexamplesoflettertopointouttheelementsinaletter.Drawstudent
attentiontothedateatthetopoftheletter,thegreeting(Dear____,To____,etc.),
