Development of a calorimetric technique

for measuring absorption cross section

of rigid bodiescase study: carbon fiber
In this article from Bruce Wayne talks about a single macroscopic size particle, one of the smallest
dimensional sizes, at a microwave frequency, exactly 35 GHz- is being shot to a cross section-
perpendicular to the microwave. The cross section will absorb the wave and will change temperature to
find the size and orientation of the particle with respect to the electromagnetic absorption. The volume
will be fixed, so the pressure will increase. To prove this or help readers understand it, we could look at
this formula: , V, n, and R are constants, so if temperature goes up, pressure goes up too. The
doctors that help conduct this experiment and do the research were Bruce Charles and Kristan Gurton.
Both are in the army research laboratory. Why would they do this? In their article they said that
Authors such as Gerber and Hyndman et al., have expressed concern about the apparent lack of good
direct measurements of the electromagnetic absorption due to small particles. Other people had tried
to this but they were unsuccessful to it. This article is used for all engineers to physicists that need more
information about absorption in carbon fibers. Electrical engineers could use this more than other
because this is optics physics and deals more with electricity and electronics. It could be use for a top
secret army project and is the first step to a next project in their list. This article is for everyone that
wants just to learn about a research paper from someone and is easy to find by going to the NMSU
library, going to the articles and journals, after that look up Bruce Charles and you will find some of his
work that he did. The articles in the NMSU website will be there at anytime and will be in any computer
you are using. This article was divided in seven parts: the abstract, the introduction, approach,
absorption device, calibration, carbon fiber results, and acknowledgments. First they told us what was
this project about, after that they gave us some background to understand the point of this experiment
why people had trouble finding the right way to do it, after that he search for the right equation to fit
this experiment that could make sense and follow it, finding the parts and calibrating them, the results
of the experiment and their acknowledgments. This article has some rhetoric composition in it. Is paper
was done by very smart people that already finish their Ph-D in their majors, that could be the Ethos. For
Pathos, didnt have any but once you understand whats going on in their experiments and get their
vocabulary youll feel really smart by understand them. Logos are everything, we could say is a paper full
of logos, because everything that professor gave us is very helpful to understand them, by looking at
their equation and where did they came up with those equation to help them find their results. The
pictures and graphs are very logical helping us understand what happened without them we would be
loss with all the words and equation that some cant understand.
