Hello 5th Grade Parents and welcome back to another school year!

Im looking forward to a new

bunch of smiling, eager students this year. My name is Ms. Courtney Valencik and I received my degree
in Middle Level Education Language Arts from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2015. This year,

parents as well as professional involvement with
introducing myself to parents and encouraging them
to do the same.

I hope to engage my students in their learning in a way that keeps their interest and helps them get the
most out of their time with me in class. I would like to introduce you to some of the plans I have for your
childs learning this year. In math, I will be introducing the order of operations, as well as some
geometry and number plotting. In our reading class, I will be engaging the students in group reading and
independent reading. We will also be doing a few book reports along the way on books that I will allow
them to choose as long as I approve them first. In writing, we will be doing daily journal entries, an autobiography, and learning about editing and punctuation. In science, the students will become hands-on
scientist as we learn about the solar system, digestive system, and the scientific method. In social
studies, we will be learning about our nations history and how each of the branches of government
function. Supplies needed will be folders and notebooks for each class, number two pencils and a
straight-edge ruler. Calculators for math are kindly provided by the school. I hope this year will be full of

teaching.
