Ta be coected by immediately, 2.33 b) 5) DIRECT NCI ATTENDING VETERINARIAN AND ADEQUATE VETERINARY CARE. <<(b)(5) Direct NCI-- Adequate pre-procedural and post-procedural care in accordance with current established veterinary medical and nursing procedures.>> ‘Several nanhuman primates were discovered by the Husbandry Services Manager to be recovering from anesthesia, in recumbency, but with food and water in their primary enclosures and no personnel in observance, The personnel who were supposed to be observing these animals had not follawed veterinary instruction to remain in observance of the animals until they were fully recovered from anesthesia and prior ta providing food and water. The use of this unapproved regimen did not produce adequate anesthetic levels to facilitate the procedure, resulting in repeated anesthetic injections to atleast one animal and injury to the technician due to inadequate restraint. The facility shall establish and maintain programs of adequate veterinary care that include guidance to all personnel involved in the care and use of animals regarding handing, immobilization, anesthesia, analgesia, tranquilization, and euthanasia.
