Higher Order Questions: How many beats are there when you clap the tibitibi
rhythm? or How many beats are in a half note?
Student Activities: The students will be listening and assessing each other, this is an
independent activity and the students must make connections to their
previous knowledge about the rhythms.
Modifications/ELL Strategies
-If the student can not speak, they
may just clap the rhythm.
-If the student is an ELL, then I will
show them the cards, clap the
rhythm and point to the rhythm.
Time
Allotted:
15 minutes

Anticipatory Activity for Lesson:

-The students have not reviewed the half note or
whole note yet this semester and in order for them
to play the game, we must review these before the
game.

Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: The class will be split up into boy/girl teams.
The students will have 4 piles of rhythms cards to choose from. Once the card
is chosen, the student will speak and clap the rhythm that is written on the
card. If this student does so correctly, they will receive a point for their team. If
the student does not complete this task, the other team as a chance to steal.
Modeling: I will model the exact way I want the answer to be given for the
game in order for the student to get the point for their team.
Guided Practice: While practicing the half notes and whole notes, I have the
class practice the rhythm hands with me and speaking the correct rhythm with
me as well.
Independent Practice: While each student chooses a rhythm card, they can
clap and say the rhythm to themselves so they can get that individual practice.
Lesson Closure: Let the students know that they have to know these rhythms
if they are wanting to start the recorder and to be good at the recorder.
Assessment Methods/Strategies: Every student will get a turn to individually
identify the rhythm and I can asses and see if each student understands the
rhythm.
