node to drive one rigid target

Build contact pairs and impose a displacement controlled
loading on the pilot node.

1.

Start an ANSYS interactive session and open (or read in) the input file named
BNL_W07D_seal.inp. You might need to set your Files of type: = (*.*)

Use the GUI menu method:

Select the Open ANSYS File ICON

Select the file BNL_W07D_seal.inp

Click OK

Or Command Input Method

/INPUT, BNL_W07D_seal.inp

Note: This file consists of APDL input


which will automatically erase any
currently active database and change the
jobname to W07D-BNL. It will then
generate the geometry and define the
materials.

Define Bottom unmeshed line as a rigid target. By specifying lines and rigid
for the target surface and type respectively, ANSYS will only display the unmeshed
lines available in the model.

Check Element Normal Directions are facing each other. Contact will only be recognized
when target and contact element normals are facing each other.

Change Normal Penalty Stiffness


factor to 0.1

13. If pairs were generated correctly, the contact manager should list them as shown
in the contact manager dialogue box below. Before closing contact manager, we
will adjust the default FKN contact normal penalty stiffness factor downward on
both pairs to account for the fact that this model has a flexible bending
dominated behavior. It might be too sensitive to the default setting, causing
unnecessary convergence difficulties.
