Mini Lesson Planning Tool for Integrating Technology

Title of Lesson: Introduction to Arrays!

Curriculum / Content Area: 3rd Grade Mathematics- Multiplication
Grade Level: 3rd Grade
PURPOSE / OBJECTIVES:

When asked to create an array, the student will be able to create and produce an array
with correct rows and columns 4 out of 5 times.
CURRICULUM STANDARDS:

Alabama 3rd Grade Mathematics Standard 3- Use multiplication and division within
100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and
measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the
unknown number to represent the problem. (See Appendix A, Table 2.) [3-OA3]
ACTIVITIES:
The student will be given 10 minutes to activate and build knowledge in the iPad game
Llama Drama, where the student will be asked to sort llamas into arrays. The game
efficiently scaffolds content from arranging the llamas into arrays into counting them.
After completing the final level, the students will screenshot the final page of the game,
and email it to the teacher.

Answer the following questions:

1. Do I know how to use the technology tool(s) that will be used by my students?
Yes. I feel that I am proficient in my use of the iPad. For any students who needed more
management for completing the task, I would turn on the assistive touch so that students would
be required to stay on task while on the iPad.
2. What technology skills do my students already have that are needed for this lesson?
Students should have a basic understanding for swiping, pinching, tapping, and dragging on the
iPad screen.
3. What technology skills will they need to learn to complete this lesson successfully?
The students will learn how to use a new app.
4. What is the appropriate setting for this lesson (classroom, lab, library, home)? Is this
setting available for my students to use?
Because this is a mobile app, students would be able to complete this anywhere.
5. What tools and resources will I need? (List of all Web sites, specific software and hardware,
and other needs.)
IPad for each student
The app Lumio: Llama Drama
6. How much time do I need to allow for this lesson?
Approximately 10 minutes or so.
7. Who can help me with the planning and/or implementation of this lesson?
In my classroom design, one student is designated as the Chief Technician, who is the first step
when any students are having issues with their technology. They are trained on proper problem solving
and have an advanced knowledge of the technology used in the classroom.
8. How will I assess the students learning?

Students will screenshot the final page on the app that shows where students have completed all
of the activities in the app. The students will then email the screenshot to the teacher, and the
teacher will review it to make sure the student completed the assignment. Lumio is also working
to develop a teacher account so that teachers can manage student progress on Lumio apps.
