coveredandwillassesstheirknowledgeofthelessonbasedontheiranswers.Iwillalsobeassessingthemduringthe
interviewactivity,observinghowwelltheyaremakingconnectionstothematerialduringthetimetheyaredoing
research,andbyobservingthequestionsthattheyareformulatingfortheirinterviewkeepinganawarenesstohowit
relatestothematerialandthepersoninhistory.Lastlythepresentationwillbeevaluatedusingarubricwhichwill
assesstheirknowledgeonthesubjectareatheyresearched.
Myrubricwillhavefivecategoriesthatwillbeassessedonagradingscaleof14.Thecategorieswillbehistorical
accuracyofperson,relationofpersontoGreekculture,questionformation,roleplay,anduseofpropsorcostume.

Thematerialsthatwillbeusedwillreflectthetwophasesofthelesson.Duringdirectinstructionstudentswillbetaking
notesintheirnotebookswhileIusethewhiteboardtowrite.GoogleEarthwillbeusedonaprojectortoemphasizethe
geographyoftheregionanditsrelationtothehistoryofancientGreece.Iwillsupplymystudentswithanoutlineofthe
subjectthatwewillbecoveringtohelpaidthemintheirnotetaking,alongwithalistofTier2and3vocabularywords
withtheirdefinitions.Duringtheactivity,studentswillhaveaccesstocomputersforresearchandwillbegivenalistof
websitestheycanusetoresearchtheirperson.Threebyfivecardswillbegiventoeachstudentfortheir"prompt"
cardsfortheinterview.Markerswillalsobeavailableforthestudentstouse.

Thislessonwilltakeplaceoveraseriesof5to6daysdependingonpresentationtime.
1. ThefirstdayIwillstartadiscussionaboutsuperheroesinourpopularculture.Iwillaskthequestion"whatis
yourfavoriteSuperHeroandwhy?"WewilldiscussvariousaspectsofSuperHerostorylines,suchassuper
naturaleventsandthecharacteristicsofSuperHeroesandVillains.TheSuperHeroeswillthenbecomparedto
GreekMythologyandhowmodernSuperHeroesaremuchlikeGreekGodsofAncientGreece.Iwillthenhandout
theoutlinefornotetakingtoeachstudent,makingsurethatmyIEPandELDstudentshaveseperatehandouts
thatmeettheirIEPandELDobjectives.Directinstructionthroughlecturewilltakeplace,pausingtoaskquestions
andtodiscusskeyelementsofGreekculture.KeyelementsthatwillbecoveredwillbegeographyofGreece,
formationofcitystatesandtheirdifferences,famouswars,religion,andpoliticalstructure.Attheendoftheclass
studentswillbeaskedquestionstoassessunderstandingofmaterialwhichwillbefromBloom'staxnomyof
questioning.Examplesofthiswillbe"Whydoyouthinkthishappened?"or"Whywassomeoneimportant?"
2. TheseconddaywillbefinishingthelectureonGreekculture.Studentswilldothesameasthedaybeforeand
progressmonitoringwilltakeplacethroughtheuseofquestions,endingthedaywithanoverviewofsome
famousGreek's.DuringlectureIwillbemindfulofTier2vocabularysuchasgeography,conquer,structureancient
andpolitics.IwillalsoteachTier3vocabularysuchasarchiteture,democracy,oligarthy,citystates,andrepublic.
Mylectureonbothdayswillbeconsciousofbothaudioandvisuallearningmodalities.
3. ThethirddayIwillaskafewquestionsaboutsomeofthematerialcoveredinthefirsttwodaysofinstruction,
includingsomeofthefamousGreek's.IwillthenhavegroupsoftwoalreadypreparedthatIwillassigntothe
class.BeingmindfulofmyEL'sandIEP'swiththeirpairings.Eachpairwillthenbegivenahandoutexplainingthe
assignment.Thegroupswillbeassignedafamouspersonandwillhavetousecomputerstoresearchkeyfacts
abouttheirpersonandhowtheywereimportanttoacertainaspectofGreekculture.Thestudentswillthen
chooseapersonintheirgrouptobetheinterviewerandonetobetheinterviewee.Theywillthenformulate
interviewquestionsbasedontheinformationtheylearnedintheirresearchandpreparea"mock"TVinterviewof
theirfamouspersonusingpropsorcostumes.Therestoftheclassperiodwillbedevotedtothispartofthe
activity.
4. Thefourthdaywillbedevotedcompletelytotheresearchandpreparationoftheirinterview.Iwillassess
studentsprogressbyindividuallyspeakingwitheachgroupthroughouttheclass.Theresearchportionofthe
assignmentwillusevisualandaudiolearningwithuseofwebsitesthathavewrittencontent,picturesandvideos.
5. Thelastdaytheinterviewswillbepresentedbyeachgroup.Audio,visualandkinesteticmodalitieswillbeusedin
thisphaseoflearningforboththepresentersandtheobservers.Iwillpreparetheorderofthepresentations
beforeclass,makingsuretohavethegroupwiththeGreekGodZeusendingthepresentations.Iwillthenlink
thepresentationofZeustothefollowinglessonwhichwillbeonGreekMythology.Studentspresentationswillbe
gradedusingtherubriccreated.

English.Iwillthenprovidethestudentswithsentenceframesonceagaintohelpthemformulatequestionsfortheir
interviews.

board.Allhandoutsforthelessonwillbeprintedinlargerfont,sothatthestudentmayreachIEPgoalsofreading
faster.Iwillalsohaveacomputerforthestudentwhichwillbesetupwithlargerfontandpicturessothattheycansee
thewebsitesforresearch.Studentwillbefreetousemagnifierifneededintheclassroomduringanypointofthe
lesson.ThestudentwillbepairedwithastudentwithoutanIEPsothattheymayrecievehelp,andIwillgivelarger
promptcardstothegroupallowingforthemtowriteinlargerfonttheirquestions.Thestudentwillbegradedbasedon
therubriccreatedforthepresentation.
2.StudentwithDislexia:Thisstudentwillalsosittowardsthefrontoftheclasssothattheyareabletoseetheboard
andlecture.Allhandoutsforthelessonwillbeprintedinlargerfont,sothatstudentmayreachIEPgoalstoboosttheir
readinglevel.ThestudentwillbepairedwithanonIEPstudentforfurtherhelp.Sincemystudentperformswellwith
auditorylearning,Iwillhavethestudentplaytheroleofthefamouspersonsothattheyarerespondingtoauditory
questionsinsteadofreadingthequestions.Thestudentwillbegradedbasedontherubriccreatedforthepresentation.

Ianticipatethattheremaybechallengesatbothphasesofthelesson.DuringthelectureIanticipatethatmystudents
mayhaveahardtimeunderstandingTier2andTier3vocabularybecausemanyofthewordsareadifferentlanguage.
Contentmaybedifficultforthemtograspaswellduringthelecture.Repititionanddiscussionwillbeusedduringthe
