Making a Decision
Making one decision that will affect you for the rest of your life is not a just a simple flip
of the coin. Picking which college to go to is not something to be taken light-heartedly. Which
majors that college offers affects your career path and how expensive that college is determines
how long you will be paying off student loan debt. Three colleges of prime choice are University
of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, and the University of Kentucky.
University of Southern Indiana offers many majors and is an affordable college in the
Evansville area. USI offers seventy majors, ten masters programs, and one doctoral program.
They offer History, Radio and Television, Sociology, Chemistry, Geology, and Computer
Information Systems as both a major and a minor. They also offer Engineering as just a major.
("Academic Programs at the University of Southern Indiana.")
USI has listed that for an Indiana resident going through undergraduate programs it is
$221.22 per credit hour, and for graduate programs it is $324.84 per credit hour for an Indiana
resident. Textbooks are estimated to cost $550 per semester. Residence halls which are for
Freshmen only cost $2,070 for a four person suite. Food can cost anywhere $710 to $1,894
depending on what meal plan is purchased, or about $900 a semester for do it yourself cooking
which $50 spent a week on a trip to the grocery store. A undergraduate student who is an
Indiana resident is expected to pay around $17,000 for the 2014-2015 school year. ("Tuition &
Fees.")
The University of Evansville offers over 80 majors including Archaeology, Biology and
Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Physics, and History. Some of the Engineering careers
include things like Mechanical engineering, Computer engineering, Computer science, and
Visual Communication Design. ("Majors by Careers.")
University of Evansville the most expensive college on this list because it is a private
school and cost about $42,656 for an Indiana resident for a full year, this includes the $10,880
for room and board and the $31,776 for tuition and fees. The on campus housing can go from
$2,510 to $4,020 a semester depending on which building the student lives in. The Fraternity
housing can go from $ 1,959 to $3,320 a semester depending on the fraternity. The meal plans
are about $2,595 per semester. ("Undergraduate Tuition.")
The University of Kentucky is the Biggest college on this list and offers about 120

masters programs which include Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History, Physics, Philosophy
and Psychology, Sociology, Chemical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. UK
is one of the biggest colleges in the Tri State area. ("Current Major & Minor Sheets.")
The University of Kentucky is the middle school when it comes to costs with about
$11,300 in tuition for an undergraduate full time student. The official UK site does not list any
other fees such as housing and meal plans on their website. ("Tuition and Fees.")
USI seems to be the best college for most with it being the least expensive, but
UK offers more majors than the other two schools. Picking which college to go to is not
something to be taken light-heartedly.
