Are you a winner?

One thing I have come to realize in life is that you cannot win without the help and
support from others. Winning is more than getting the cup, the popularity, the
prize, the prestige or the medal. Winning is putting others into consideration first
before you, winning is sacrificing, winning is being disciplined, winning is being kind,
winning is being determined, winning is relentlessness, winning is strong will,
winning is overcoming fear, winning is courage, winning is not being intimidated
above all winning is showing love.

To win in life you need the support, encouragement and love from family and
friends, you also need to overcome selfishness, poor self esteem and to show love
to others.

Nancy got into a singing competition alongside 30 teenagers. Nancy suffered

from a low self esteem because she was poor and lived with her parents in a ghetto.
As the competition progressed Nancy’s performance was always outstanding, the
support she got from her parents and well wishers really helped her but she had
one challenge.

Melanie seventeen years old was a rich, talented spoilt brat, who was also in
the competition. Melanie often showed off in the camp where the competitors were
accommodated and she was part of all those who made jest of Nancy.

One day while playing during their recreation hours Melanie and her friends
wandered off towards a nearby bush they were so deep in their discussions that
they did not see Melanie step on a poisonous plant which causes itching all over the
body. Melanie’s friends abandoned her because they were scared. Melanie ran back
towards the camp shouting, scratching and tearing her clothes. She was made jest
of by the other competitors who were simply amused.

Suddenly from amongst the other competitors Nancy walked towards Mel,
helped her up and took her to the medical centre. Melanie was grateful afterwards.
At the finals of the competition, Melanie and Nancy tied but thereafter because one
of the judges knew Melanie’s father he decided to break the tie using the
contestant’s appearance and of course Melanie won.

But all of a sudden Melanie stood up and said” I don’t deserve this, I am not
selfless, not humble, not considerate and do not deserve this trophy I just sing. But I
think Nancy is all that, and to me that is what it takes to be a winner” with that she
handed over the trophy to Nancy everyone clapped and shouted for joy. Are you a
winner?
