Course Description
Students in English II explore the ways that audience, purpose, and context shape oral
communication, written communication, and media and technology. While emphasis is placed on
communicating for purposes of personal expression, students also engage in meaningful
communication for other purposes. English II emphasizes grammar and language usage as
important parts of communication. There is an English II end-of-course exam which focuses on
reading literary and informational texts and demonstrating mastery of understanding through
multiple choice responses, short answer written responses, and an essay response.

Tardy Policy
If you are not in the classroom preparing for class when the bell rings you will serve lunch
detention the following day.
Classroom Policies
1. Late Work / Missed Work
If you miss a class, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed. You will have
2 days from the day you miss class to make up that work. If you miss a quiz or test,
you need to make arrangements with me to complete it as soon as possible. I will not
allow student to turn in assignments weeks or months after it has been due.
All late work will be immediately deducted 40 points.
We have a class website which I will update every day. The website will have everything
we did each daythe daily agenda, handouts, and assignments. Since this website is
updated every day, there is no reason for a child to ever fall behind.
Class website: http://msvenglish10.weebly.com
Additionally, missed work can be found in the classroom too. In a blue file bin labeled
missed work, there are manila folders inside sorted by class period. There is a manila
folder for each student. If you miss a class, your missed work will be placed in your folder
and dated for the date you missed class. It is YOUR responsibility to get your work from
the file bin and turn it in on time.
2. Bookbags / Purses
Students bags should be closed and tucked under or beside their desk.
3. Headphones / Cell Phones
Cell phones and headphones are NOT allowed in class unless I have said otherwise. Occasionally
students will be able to use cell phones for instructional/learning purposes and activities, and
that is the only time cell phones will be allowed. If I see a student with a cell phone out in class
otherwise, its automatic write-up. No questions asked. I will confiscate the phone until the end
of class if necessary.
Expectations
1. Come to class on time and prepared.
Prepared means with all materials. Tardy students must have a pass. Excessive tardiness will
lead to a referral.
2. Be Respectful.
Respect the comments, questions, and ideas of others. I will not tolerate rudeness or
insensitivity.
3. Listen to instruction.

When a teacher is talking, you should be listening. Listening helps you learn!
4. Have a positive attitude.
Having a bad attitude is disrespectful. Keep an open mind during class activities and they will be
more fun!
