Philosophers for nursing

Call for papers

Nursing Philosophy is pleased to announce a proposal for a series of commissioned

papers in which the work of major philosophers is outlined to illustrate their influence
on and importance for nursing. Papers will be of 5000- 7000 words and structured
using the following broad headings:
Introduction
Context. This might explain the circumstances of his/her life, the conditions in which
he/she lived and the influences under which he/she worked.
Major works and themes. This might also describe (for some philosophers) how the
ideas developed further, major critiques, and responses to those critiques where
available.
Implications for nursing. This might include influence on practice, education and/or
research in nursing.
Further reading. This will include the major and/or relevant works of the philosopher
and references to major biographies or other resources.
Any philosopher who illuminates nursing practice can be the subject of a paper.
Subject to necessary permissions, it is hoped that in time these papers may be
collected and republished in book form.
Please discuss in the first instance with Dr Paul Snelling (p.snelling@worc.ac.uk or
Dr Martin Lipscomb (Martin.Lipscomb@uwe.ac.uk ) so that duplicates can be
avoided and deadlines agreed. All papers will be subject to peer review.
