ARC WELDING
Lab Report #6

Objective: Welding two similar metal plates.

We are given a pair of metal plates which have to be shaped first
and after shaping they have to be welded together.

Tools/Machine used:

Try square
Flat file
Scriber
Arc Welding Machine

Procedure:
The metal plates provided are not plane (perpendicular sides),
hence the block is planned first using a flat file and its
perpendicularity is checked by a try square at regular intervals
during the
planning. No dimensions are provided so we only
have to make sure that the metal plates are perpendicular. Fix the
metal plates at 45 degree angle to the tool post, apply flat file on
the longer side so that side becomes inclined. A longitudinal
triangle will appear after applying flat file. After filing both the
plates to 45 degree angle, the metal plates are welded with the
help of an arc welding machine. Exercise caution before using the
welding machine such as the use of eye shields, and use of pliers
to handle the work piece.
