Dear Parents,

As your superintendent, the safety and well-being of all students remains a top
priority for me. I also believe in the importance of communicating relevant
information directly to parents. I am sending this message to inform you of a
situation that occurred today at Green Pines Elementary.
Unfortunately, in the middle of the day, one of our substitute teachers was detained
by the police for questioning. While we are not privy to details, we have no reason
to believe the incident under investigation involves the substitutes work in
Rockwood. This substitute has now been removed from our substitute list and is
prohibited from being on District property at this time. All parents of students who
were in this substitutes assigned classroom were contacted directly by Green Pines
administrative staff.
It is important for you to know that all Rockwood School District employees,
including substitute teachers, are screened through criminal background checks
prior to employment. We will always take appropriate steps to ensure all students
have a safe and secure learning environment.
It is possible that you may hear or read about this as a police matter in the local
media. Please know, since this is a police matter, I will not be privy to any details
that do not pertain directly to the Rockwood School District. I have complete
confidence that the police are handling this matter, as we continue to provide a safe
environment for all children and staff.
If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Dr. Eric D. Knost
