Formative assessment and feedback (S6)

To challenge and extend the
pupils my questions are: S1b,

What techniques and

strategies am I using to assess
the learning? (S6b)

AfL tectonic plates quiz. During sharing with another pair.

How and when we I give

oral/written feedback to the
pupil against the success
criteria so that they can
respond? (S6d, S2a)

Oral during teacher input, lesson and plenary.

Plenary-

Can use whiteboards/ work sheet to

record.
Will be sharing with another pair- How
will you display this information to
another pair?

The two plates at a plate margin cannot

move past each other easily. The two
plates become locked. Friction causes
pressure to build up. Suddenly, the
pressure is released and the plates jolt
into a new position. This causes seismic
waves. The vibrations they cause are
called an earthquake.

IranThe houses in Iran were poorly built. They

were made from mud brick which
collapsed straight away.
When mud brick collapses it
disintegrates.
This leaves fewer air pockets, which
might have allowed some people to
survive, even though they were trapped.
CaliforniaThree lives lost due to the collapse of a
historic clock tower, sometimes called
the Acorn Building. It was made of wood
and un-reinforced masonry.
Within 12 hours, search and rescue crews
found all the quake's victims.
About 75,000 homes and businesses lost
power after the quake, but service was
restored to all soon after.
