Non-Dedicated Channel for NEXEDGE Trunking Systems

Model:

NXR-x00
NX Series

Outline
A NEXEDGE Trunking system can be configured with one control channel and up to 29 traffic
channels per site.
The current firmware does not support a new call set up when all of traffic channels are occupied.
With this release Kenwood introduces a new firmware which supports a new call set up even when
all of the traffic channels are occupied.
At this time, the control channel is switched to traffic channel functionality temporarily.
This feature is called with Non-dedicated control channel.
Note:
1. Several features are restricted when using the Non-dedicated Control Channel feature.
Please construct the system with adequate traffic channels taking into account the restrictions.
2. The Non-dedicated control channel feature is supported in the current release firmware, but
only in a single repeater site configuration. This configuration can be used as a so called fill-in
site.

Note
When the traffic channel works as Non-dedicated control channel, the Hold Time for
voice call operates with 0s (Zero seconds) even if the Trunking Type is set to Message
Trunked.
The traffic channel will return to control channel- functionality immediately after releasing
the PTT button of the radio.
In case of transmitting a data message and Message Trunked Enhanced, the Hold Time
works as it was set up in KPG-110SM.
KPG-110SM > Edit > System Configuration > Timers
Radios will not start looking for a new control channel in case the actual control channel
has switched to Non-dedicated mode temporarily.
The new call can be set up with Non-dedicated control channel feature enabled, even if all
traffic channels are occupied.
In case of Message Trunking Enhanced, there is possibility that Non-dedicated feature
doesnt work.
A traffic channel is not assigned until the called radio responds by PTT in the Message
Trunking Enhanced mode.
If the call setup is in progress with no free traffic channel, as above, the control channel
cannot switch to traffic channel since it is processing to assign a traffic channel for original
call.
When all channels are working as Traffic channel with a Non-dedicated control channel
programmed in a site, a free traffic channel cannot work as a control channel if the original
control channel is still working as Non-dedicated control channel.
The Queue/Pre-emption feature doesnt work in a site which is programmed to use the
Non-Dedicated Control Channel.
KPG-110SM > Edit > System Configuration > Queue
The following paragraph describes a typical scenario.
Example:
System Configuration and setting

Busy System Wait Setting: Set

channel.

Site2:
