Process overview and Company

Introduction
Lenscrafters has become a monopoly in the world of eyewear, and a lot of
the success has come from the ability to provide customers with the option
of
1-hour service.
The business model that Lenscrafters has come to represent would be that
of Business to consumer. This 1-hour process of a semi-finished lens is
what we have chosen to chart out today.

Production Process
The Primary input of the process would be receiving the sales order from
the eyewear consultant after they have completed the sale.
The Primary output is going to be a completed pair of glasses with the

Production Process walkthrough

Step 1- The order is printed from main lab computer through and
automated system. And is placed in proper tray provided by the retail
associate.

Step 2- The lab technician will pull the lenses that have been called for by
the order from stock. The technician will make sure that the skus on
lenses match that of those on the printed order. At this point the
technician will be able to tell the sales associate if this is stock or needs to
be ordered.

Step 3- Now that the appropriate lenses have been pulled they will go
through a quality inspection. This inspection will make sure that there are
no defects on the lenses. After the inspection is completed the technician
will check the power of the lenses to make sure they are the correct power.

Step4- The lens will be marked on the correct power and axis that is
provided on the lab order. Once they are marked the lenses will be marked
as Left and Right.

Step 5- The frame will now be checked for proper measurements. Once
they are confirmed the lens will be blocked with the measurements

Step 6- Now the technician will be move to the provided cutting machine
in this case the 7-E. The frame will first be traced on the machine and be
given a unique ID so that the file can be pulled up on the cut menu.

Step 7- The ID will entered in the cut menu, the machine will cut first right
then left. The technician will just have to place the proper lens into the
machine.

Step 8- Once the lens is cut and fit into the frame the completed product
will move into final inspection.

Step 9- The completed set of glasses will once again be inspected. The
technician will check the power/axis and quality of the product. If the
product passes inspection it will be clocked out of the system.

Enterprise System
Lenscrafters by technicality is a medical company because of the selling of
prescription glasses/sunglasses and in some cases contact lenses.
Lenscrafters uses and ERP system, or Enterprise resource planning system.
This allows them to run software that includes business management,
accounting, finance, HR management, product management, and electronic
collaboration.

Metrics
1st All jobs must be completed within about1-hour of purchase
2nd Depending on the prescription each job will have a tolerance of error
that will be allowed
3rd The extra incentives that the Lab Techs receive is based on their % of
completion within their RWP (ready when promised) (92.5%)
4th For whatever reason if there is a mistake made by man or machine the
process must start over correcting whatever is wrong. This can affect RWP
which affects incentives and can affect customer service
