Clinical Practice Proposal

Following are the planned clinical practice activities to be undertaken by Kyle Talicska during the
2015 Winter Term at the University of Michigan-Flint. This clinical practice will be completed at
in the Clio Area Schools under the direction of Mr. John Darga, Principal of Garner Elementary
School, who will serve as the cooperating administrator and provide on-site supervision for the
experience.

Narrative Description of Specific Task


Prepare and complete part of the program evaluation for the AdvancED School Improvement
Plan. This report is necessary for our school improvement plan and school wide accreditation.
This will include the entire section of program evaluation submitted for accreditation. The report
will include student, parent, and staff surveys as well as data analysis of the program.

COMPETENCY 3- Community Relations

Knowledge of methods of communicating with staff and community.

Narrative Description of Specific Task


Create and implement a Family Night Out program. This program will offer families a nonthreatening free evening at Garner Elementary School. This will help get families into our
building and offer free activities to our ever changing socio-economic population. Funds will be
provided through our school PTA. Activities may include but are not limited to: movie night,
BINGO, school dance, family picnic.

Narrative Description of Specific Task


With a teachers permission provide evaluation based on the school districts adopted 5d+
evaluation tool. Working closely with my supervisor, meet and evaluate a teacher based on
certain predetermined competencies. After the conclusion of the observation, meet with the
building administrator to compare notes to determine. Discuss and create a level of efficacy to
learn how to evaluate staff properly.

Define a role in clarifications of schools educational goals. Work with students, staff, and
patrons to develop a plan for beautification of a school campus.

Narrative Description of Specific Task


Plan and develop a pamphlet to educate parents on the standards and curriculum associated with
each grade level at Garner Elementary. Meet with staff from each grade level to discuss and plan
what they would like include into this document. Have the document available to all parents.
Also, upload and include on the schools website. If possible share the information and
documents with the two other elementary schools in our district for their use.

COMPETENCY 11- Student Personnel


Specific Task
11.2

Knowledge of principles of discipline, student control, etc.

11.2.2 Analyze discipline referral and suspension data for a school year to identify the nature
and frequency of student misbehavior. Based on findings, recommend a plan to reduce
most common form of misconduct.
11.2.6 Observe the administration of discipline and participate in informal and formal due
process hearings.
11.2.8 Survey or interview staff members regarding their perceptions of problems that arise
during implementation of the school discipline policy and what they recommend to
overcome the problems.
Narrative Description of Specific Task
Develop a data analysis process of the students that are visiting the office. From there develop a
plan to lessen student traffic in the office. Work closely with the behavior committee within the
school building to develop a plan that works for all staff and office personnel.

Narrative Description of Task:


Spend a minimum of one entire day (including after school and evening responsibilities, if any)
shadowing the cooperating administrator.
Narrative Description:
Assist administrator, when appropriate, in accomplishing responsibilities. Maintain a journal of
activities and prepare a thoughtful analysis of the number, nature and focus of activities, and with
whom the administrator interacted. Describe and assess the decision making process and style
used by the administrator in responding to various categories of demands or problems. Identify
several crucial lessons the day taught about the art of administration and school leadership.

It is understood that this proposal, once approved by the Cooperating Administrator and
University Faculty, represents the agreed plan of work for this clinical experience. Upon the
satisfactory completion of this plan of work a grade will be given and credit for the course
granted.
