Narrative Description of Specific Task

Plan and develop a pamphlet to educate parents on the standards and curriculum associated with
each grade level at Garner Elementary. Meet with staff from each grade level to discuss and plan what
they would like include into this document. Have the document available to all parents. Also, upload and
include on the schools website. If possible share the information and documents with the two other
elementary schools in our district for their use.

Description and Analysis of the Administrative Activities

For the completion of each competency I met individually with each grade level at their
individual meetings. Throughout each meeting I asked each grade level what their expectations
were for each student at the completion of a school year. From the data that I collected I then

created a pamphlet. This pamphlet will be handed out to parents at the beginning of each school
year at curriculum nights.

Reflection on Lessons Learned

It was eye opening to look at curriculum as a whole from a k-4 perspective. I have had
the opportunity to teach kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grades, but stepping back and looking at what
we actually want our students to learn in the classroom was very eye opening. It was also very
valuable to have conversations across grade levels on how the curriculum builds. I also met with
our schools parent organization. I had the group look over the brochure and it was met with
strong and positive review. Many from the group actually stated how helpful the document will
be in the future. The parents of the 4th graders even stated that they would have liked the
document through their childs elementary career. Overall, working with parents as well as
teachers to have a document that will communicate clearly the outcomes needed at each grade
level was very positive. Each party stated the need for the document as well as the user
friendliness of the completed document. Each are excited to use it in the future.
