Big Ideas:
How can you relate the material learned from this unit to a real life situation?
How will solving equations help you understand how to solve and graph inequalities?
In what ways may this unit help you build your math skills, prepare you to graduate high school, and make you ready for college
and your future career?
We will be using different types of technology for this unit, can you identify some? How will learning about and using these
technologies help you later on?
Students will be able to solve a linear equations and inequalities worksheet independently and obtain the correct answer.
In groups of four, students will be able to evaluate a word problem, explain their conclusion, and present their project
within 2 weeks.
Students will be able to answer 20 multiple choice questions and draw graphs, with great certainty, within a 40 minute
class period.
Unit Summary:
Students will learn how to reason with equations and inequalities. We will be going over how to solve equations and inequalities
by using different methods available to find the solution. To aid this learning process, students will engage in different types of
assignments, projects, and tests to demonstrate their understanding of the material. A few activities they will do during this
sections are creating a graphic organizer on what they learned, completing a quiz on their knowledge, and a team game on
solving problems. Moreover, students will work in groups in order to solve the word problem and make a presentation of the
different methods used to solve the system of equations. During this activity, students will plan, organize, solve, and create a
poster to show their findings and work. At the end of the unit, students will be able to complete an exam with 20 questions
regarding linear equations, inequalities, and their graphs.
