1.Introduction

This assignment serves as an introduction to the use of AutoCAD Map 3D for the purpose of
using source drawings, queries, and generating reports. The town has declared the concrete
sewers require relining and the vitreous clay sewers require replacement. The town also indicates
that the PVC sewers do not require any maintenance, but the Project 30-120 pipes are defective
and must be replaced. In order to produce a total cost regarding the relining and replacement
pipes, data has been provided relating to the pipe material and size, along with the cost per foot.
This report will include a methodology, queries used, costs for the pipes, and cartographic maps
displaying the relining pipes and where the defective PVC pipes are located, along with the
property owners within 500 feet of the pipes to be replaced. The property owners will be listed
whom are affected by the PVC pipes, in order to be notified regarding the replacement project.
This analysis will be utilized in AutoCAD 3D Map to develop the reports and queries, Microsoft
Excel to generate the estimated costs and Esris ArcGIS to output the final layouts. Please refer
to Appendix A.1 and A.2 for the final cartographic map layouts for the Sanitary Pipe Relining
and Replacement Project.

2.Study Area
The study area for this assignment is shown in Figure 1 below, which displays the location of
Oregon in the United States of America. This site is the location in which the sanitary sewer

maintenance program for 2015 will take place. The two maps for the final layouts were assigned
the NAD27 Oregon State Planes (Polyconic), South Zone, US Foot coordinate system.

Figure 1: Study Area (Oregon, USA)

3.Methodology
3.1 Create a Map Template

Upon importing the necessary file formats for the purpose of this assignment, a new map must be
created using the map2d.dwt template. This template will be used to show appropriate AutoCAD
Mapping standards, along with text and dimension styles. A NAD27 Oregon State Planes
(Polyconic), South Zone, US Foot coordinate system is assigned to this template that will be
used for future drawings.

3.2 Create a Drive Alias to Connect Source Drawings

After assigning a coordinated system to the map template, a drive alias was created to navigate to
defined locations. The information required for this assignment consisted of three drawing files,
which are Streets.dwg, San_SewerD3W15.dwg, and TaxlotsOD.dwg. Drive aliases are
advantageous because rather than reattaching all the source drawings, you can simply redefine
where the drive alias points, allowing for multiple users to use the same pathname for the
drawings stored on a shared drive (Martin and Ellis, 2014). Figure 2 below shows the drive alias
name and the path that connects to the drawing files.

Figure 2: Creating a Drive Alias

3.3 Display All Attached Source Drawings

Once the drawings are listed under the drawings tab in Map Explorer, you are able to view the
drawings by ensuring the drawings are activated, as seen below in Figure 3. Deactivating source
drawings can also be useful when performing a Quick View or query to ensure they are not
considered and displayed. Along with deactivating, a Quick View of all the activated drawings is
shown below in Figure 3.

Figure 3: Activating Source Drawings

As seen below in Figure 4, the image displays the output of using Quick View of all the activated
drawings. By ensuring the Zoom to Extents of Selected Drawings option is enabled, it will
display all of the drawings accordingly.

Figure 4: Quick View of Activated Drawings

3.4 Execute Queries for the Sanitary Sewer Pipes

Queries are used to fundamentally change the way you work with drawings and objects, whether
its creating new maps, limiting the amount of data you work with, organizing data, analyzing
data, or editing objects in a multi user environment (Martin and Ellis, 2014). For the purpose of
this assignment, the town as indicated the concrete sewer pipes require relining, and clay and
PVC pipes require replacement.
3.4.1

Queries for Concrete Pipes

In order to determine the specific cost for concrete pipes, queries were used to display the
concrete pipes within 6 to 8 inches, 10 to 12 inches, and 15 to 18 inches. Figure 5 below, shows
how the pipe range 10 to 12 inches are shown in a query. This query includes the pipe range, pipe
material, and the layer the query is based upon. It should be noted that this query was performed
on all of the pipe size ranges for concrete material by editing the pipe size.

Figure 5: Creating a Query for Concrete Pipes

Queries are also used to generate reports, by outputting the file into a text file format. This report
will be used to calculate the total cost for each pipe size range based on the concrete material.
Figure 6 below shows a report for the 10 to 12 inch pipe size based on the length of each pipe,
the project title, the size of the pipe in inches, and the material of the pipe. This report will create
a text file for the 10 to 12 inch pipe size based on the concrete material, which was imported into
Microsoft Excel to calculate the total cost and total length of the sewer pipes.

Figure 6: Creating a Report for Concrete Pipes

The final result of the queries executed for the concrete pipes based upon size is shown in
Appendix A.1, which is titled Concrete Sewer Pipe Reline Placement".
3.4.2

Queries for Clay Pipes

In order to determine the cost for the clay pipes, queries were used to display the clay pipes at 6,
8, 10, 12 and 15 inches. Figure 7 below, shows how the 6 inches pipe size is executed in a query.
This query includes the pipe size, pipe material, and the layer the query is based upon. It should
be noted that this query was performed on all of the pipe sizes for clay material by editing the
pipe size in order to view each pipe size individual.

Figure 7: Creating a Query for Clay Pipes

As mentioned above in Section 3.4.1, queries are also used to create reports. This report will be
used to calculate the total cost for each pipe size based on the clay material. Another option for
creating a report is one that accounts for all pipe sizes based on material. Figure 8 below shows a
report for all the clay pipes based on the length of each pipe, the project title, the size of the pipe
in inches, and the material of the pipe. This report will create a text file, which is imported into
Microsoft Excel to calculate each cost of the pipe size, along with the total length of the clay
pipes.

Figure 8: Creating a Report for Clay Pipes

3.4.3

Queries for PVC Pipe

Along with creating queries for concrete and clay pipes, a query must also be created to
determine the PVC pipes associated with Project 30-120. The PVC pipe supplier for this specific
project has indicated that the pipe supplied was defective and needs to be replacement.
Therefore, a query was created that shows the type of project and pipe material below in Figure 9
on the following page. Once the PVC Project 30-120 pipes are displayed on the map, a buffer
query must be created to display the tax-lot centroids within 500 feet of the pipes. Figure 10
below on the following page shows the layer name the buffer will be created on (Tax-lot
Centroid) and the type of buffer being created (Buffer Fence).

Figure 9: Creating a Query for PVC Project 30-120

Figure 10: Creating a Buffer Query

The Director of Public Works requires a list of the property owners within 500 feet of the pipe to
be replaced as will have to be notified of the replacement project. Figure 11 below shows how
the report query was created that includes the owners name, city, zip code, and address.

Figure 11: Creating a Report for Property Owners

The final result of the queries executed for the PVC Replacement Program based upon Project
30-120 is shown in Appendix A.2, which is titled Project 30-120 PVC Pipe Replacement
Program

4.Sanitary Sewer Pipe Cost Analysis

The Director of Public Works requires a high level estimate of the maintenance program costs for
the relining and the defective pipe replacement to plan, budget, and get council approval for the
program. Outlined below in Section 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3 is a cost estimate breakdown for the
concrete sewer relining and the vitreous clay sewers replacement, along with the PVC pipes
relating to Project 30-120. A grand total has been calculated in Section 4.4 for all pipes that
require relining and replacement.

6.Findings and Conclusion

Upon receiving all of the necessary information from the source drawings by executing queries
and reports, Northern Geospatial Solutions has determined the total estimated cost for the sewer
maintenance program for 2015. It is estimated that the total cost for relining the concrete pipes
that met the criteria for 6 to 8, 10 to 12 and 15 to 18 will be $285,777.11. The estimated
cost for the clay pipes replacement program that met the criteria for 6, 8, 10, 12, and 15 will
be $110,928.51. The total estimated cost for the PVC pipe replacement program for Project 30120 that met the criteria for for 6 to 8, 10 to 12 and 15 to 18 will be $106,762.66.
Therefore, a grand total estimated cost for the sanitary sewer maintenance program for 2015 will
be $503,468.28. It shall be noted that these costs are without taxes, thus are estimated prices.

Northern Geospatial Solutions has provided a cartographic map that displays the relining
placement for all concrete pipes based upon size in Appendix A.1. A cartographic map is also
displayed in Appendix A.2, which illustrates the location of the PVC pipe Project 30-120, along
with houses affected by the replacement program.
