Social Media
Facebook Guidelines
Profile/Cover Pictures:
1. These pictures need to be a strong representation of your organization and what you are trying
to promote. Usually this would be your logo; something that viewers can easily identify and
associate with your organization.
2. There needs to be a decent amount of pictures on your page for visitors to view. This gives
them an idea of whats going on in your organization and more of a personal feeling between the
viewers and you. You should post pictures around 3 to 4 times a week. Post pictures that
demonstrate what you achieve, such as selling a big item or the food banks you donate to.
Who you are:
1. Your page needs to represent what your organization stands for; tell your viewers how and
why you started your organization. A good place to do this is in the about section.
2. The information should be descriptive and accurate. The page should be inviting to the
viewers; appeal is key to an effective and interactive page.
Appeal:
1. Your page should look good; posting pictures or videos attracts more views and becomes more
appealing as well.
2. It allows viewers to see how your organization works on a regular basis; it provides a constant
flow of attention grabbing posts; which in turn gains more views and a steadier following.
Strategy:
1. Know your information, who your audience is, and what youre trying to achieve. If you are
looking for more awareness you should be posting plenty of information about your organization
at least 3 to 4 times a week.
2. If you are looking to increase business at your location you should be posting more
information about where youre located, possible deals and promotions and posts about
individuals or other organizations that you have helped.
3. You should be targeting people from around 25+ who either are capable of donating more
quality merchandise or are in more need of purchasing it. Your posting times should always
include the weekendSundays in particular. The times should be after work hours around 6 to 7
or later, this is when Facebook gets more hits.
Be Interactive:
1. Create interactive posts that your followers can get involved with i.e. comment on, share with
friends, and like.
2. Respond to important questions or relevant comments that are made on your page; it will
create a personal feel with your following and create a more loyal fan base.

Twitter Guide
What is Twitter?
Twitter is a social media platform where users share their thoughts, news, and
information in 140 characters of text or less. Twitter makes global communication easy
and measurable. Profiles can either be public or private. If a profile is public anyone who
has a Twitter can see what you write. Users "follow" each other in order to keep tabs on
and converse with specific people.
Twitter Talk (definitions)
Tweet: A 140-characters, or less, message.
Retweet (RT): Re-sharing or giving credit to someone else's tweet.
Feed: The stream of tweets you see on your homepage. It's comprised of updates from users you
follow.
Handle: Your username.
Mention (@): A way to reference another user by his username in a tweet (e.g. @xyz). Users are
notified when mentioned.
Direct Message (DM): A private, 140-character or less message between two people. You can
decide whether to accept a Direct Message from any Twitter user, or only from users you are
following.
You may only DM a user who follows you.
Hashtag (#): A way to denote a topic of conversation or participate in a larger linked discussion
(e.g. #AmericanIdol, #Obama). A hashtag is a discovery tool that allows others to find your
tweets, based on topics. You can also click on a hashtag to see all the tweets that have used that
hashtag.

Hootsuite How-To
Welcome to Hootsuite! Hootsuite is a website designed to make juggling multiple social media
accounts a whole lot easier by using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. For Humble
Impressions we will only be using it for Twitter and Facebook. Within Hootsuite, you can
schedule timed postings for the week or even for the month. Taking an hour or two at the
beginning of the week to schedule each post can help to minimize the hassle of consistently
posting to social media. This will be Humble Impressions biggest asset in controlling the amount
of time spent on posting.
14
15
That is Hootsuite in a nutshell. There are other options if you wish to pay that allows for access
to up 100 social media networks and even the ability to measure your campaign with analysis
results to help improve them.

Instagram How-To
Social Media is a vital tool for nonprofit organizations. Its free, easy to find and reaches a large
audience. This guide is meant to help you through any questions or concerns you may have when
setting up and Instagram account, which is a social media network that uses photographs and
videos to communicate.
An Instagram account can only be created from an app on a smartphone, but can be used from a
PC. This is the Instagram home feed. Here, you can see your followers, pictures and videos.
17
From here, in the upper right corner, you can go to your profile.
18
Your profile should have a profile picture (in this case, a logo), your basic information, and your
handle.
Here, you can also see the photos you have posted in the past.
Instagram also has this neat tool that tells you how many pictures, followers and how many
people youre following in one space.
Taking and Posting a Picture
To take a picture from the app, click on the camera button.
19
20
Next, you will come to the Share To screen. This screen is the last step to share your picture
and message with your followers. You can write a caption, complete with mentions and hashtags,
and share it to your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Flickr feed.
Now that youve shared a photo, your followers will be able to see all the hard work and effort
youve put into your nonprofit, and more people will able aware about whatever you want to
communicate to your audience.
