Rationale: I chose to do a print genre of a college application. Yes, I do know that most college applications are done online, but there
are cases where college applications are available to on paper for students to fill out. College applications are mainly filled out by high
school seniors to be accepted to universities that determine the rest of their lives. Most college applications include of course the name
of the student, address, and any other personal information that is necessary to be asked by the college. Then it goes into the high
school(s) the student has attended. Some colleges look at the types of high schools that students have attended. If it is a well-rounded
and well known high school, they have a bigger chance of getting in. However, for homeschooled children they dont get this push
because they were taught in their home. Then the questions focus on SAT, ACT scores. Most traditional students that attend school
have the resources from their teachers to study for these types of tests, as homeschoolers do not get these opportunities. However, it is
known that homeschoolers do take advanced classes at universities to benefit themselves for doing well on these national statewide
exams. But not all are able to do because of money situations. Not all families can pay for their homeschooled child to take these
classes. Then the questions can move to all the extracurricular activities that the student participated in while in high school. Of course
it is easy for public school students to fill this section out because the opportunities are right there and present. For homeschoolers, it
isnt right there and present because they are not on a high school campus. Though a lot of homeschoolers do participate in
extracurricular events because they know it is important to put on college resumes and mainly to be more social with other children their
age. Overall, the reason I chose to do a college application was because some homeschooled children find it difficult to fill out a college
application. I am aware that many homeschooled children do take advanced classes at universities and participate in extracurricular
activities outside of their home. And because they do this it makes it easier for them to add to their college application. However, there
are many homeschooled children dont have the opportunity to participate in activities or have the opportunity to take advanced classes
at other colleges. Some homeschooled children can find it difficult to fill out college applications because they cannot fill in certain
sections. For my project, I decided to fill out a written college application in a way that a typical homeschooled student will fill it out. No
high school name or no high school activities.
