SITE PLAN

Section Drawing S021 illustrates Griffin Drive as it exists. The view, facing west, is a streetscape section
showing the typical driving lanes at 8 feet. As you enter the site from 12th Street, large cedars border
Griffin Drive on the north but are set back approximately 10 to 12 feet. On the south the site is flat with
little to no vegetation. Proceeding west, the chapel sits to the south. The drawing shows in the
background Hope Hall and the current hospital facilities, which actually sit to the south of Griffin Drive
as it deadheads into the Hospital parking facilities.
Section Drawing S022 illustrates a typical proposed interior street. Proposed is the removal of Griffin
Drive as it exists, relocating the drive so that it enters the site 1000 south of the Robinson/12 th Street
intersection and so that it intersects with Sonoma Park Drive creating the ability to provide traffic signals
to facilitate pedestrian and bicycle crossings. The new drive enters going west then curves south, as
illustrated in the above section. The street width would remain at 8 feet per driving lane. To the east,
bermed planting areas, street lighting at a more pedestrian scale, as well as public art dispersed
between plantings. To the west, a 6 to 8 foot bermed planting area, followed by an 8-10 meandering
shared walking and bike path that follows the path of the existing creek until reaching a bridge
transitioning the creek. To the east of the new Griffin Drive, beyond the creek, would be the entrance to
the botanical gardens which begin with plantings at the creek edge. The south bound drive approaches
the Griffin Memorial Chapel (which would be the new Arboretum and Event Centers welcome and
event center) and would continue south to connect with Veterans Drive and curve around to the rear of
Hope Hall (proposed to be a new hotel with lower level commemorative museum and conference/event
rooms).
Suggested plantings at the creek edge include trees, fountain grasses, and vegetation benefiting from
more moisture such as Weeping Mulberries, Cottonwoods, and River Birches. Additional species might
include native Cattails, and Mexican Feather Grass. Beyond the creek boundaries Bald Cypress, Green
Giant Arborvitaes, before entering more manicured and designed gardens. Throughout the site, typical
bermed planting areas just along the street would include small deciduous and evergreen plantings with
low lying ground cover and blooming perennials. Suggested species include; Hedge Maples, Lacebark
Elms, and Chinese Pastiches.
