to/excited about). RECOUNT: Margin, date. Sizzling start.
Stress importance of including capital letters & full stops.
Model: Write a recount about your weekend. Make a mistake
(demonstrate how to correct) GO. 10-15 MINUTES
Model: Use a green pencil to circle full stops, exclamation
marks and question marks. Is your next letter a capital
letter?
EXTENSION: Sample writing to correct punctuation and
rewrite correctly.
Writing Remind what capital letters look like?
Different capital letters and point to which ones are which.
WHY?
Display sentences and have the students place omitted
capital letters from the start of sentences. (10 minutes)
Good things about being a pirate/ bad things? Same time. At
least 3 things each.

Verbal retell, asking order of events / literal questions.
Double page, rule boxes, write pirate Pete and draw a picture in box. Model
and GO.
How do you think he felt at the end of the story?

Topic_ Revise pirates good/bad. Imagine you are a pirate? Look for the
strongest reason. Model persuasive text. Sizzling start. Convince me of why
pirates are good/ bad. Paragraph & conclusion.
*Not to start with because and expand why its good to live a boat.

Writing - Word of the Week Meticulous (fussy). Write a


recount about your weekend. Stress importance of including
capital letters & full stops. Use a green pencil to circle full
stops, exclamation marks and question marks. Is your next
letter a capital letter? Punctuation activity stick words from
sentences on to cards and have children work out where the
missing punctuation and capital letters belong.

covered. Children to work in groups to discuss where the story might take
place, what is happening & what they think the story will be about. Give
reasons for predictions. Read to page 6. Why do you think Mr Careys
plants are full of holes? Highlight the use of an apostrophe of ownership in
the text. Why do you think Mr. Febold grew sunflowers? Why do you think
Ms. Elwood fed her pumpkins milk? In Reading Journals - Write title of boo
author & illustrator. Draw where the story takes place. Finish sentences
about each character. The main character is ...........; Mr. Munsing
grew.........; Ms. Elwood grew..........; Mr. Febold grew........
Reading - Quiet reading/partner reading. Read: Mr. Careys Garden (Jane
Cutler). Read to page 12. Were Mr. Careys neighbours happy about the
snails? What does Mr. Carey mean when he says, I appreciate your
suggestion but the thing is I see it in a different light? Design and draw
your own garden. Make it interesting by adding things like a bird bath,
pond, garden seat, garden gnomes, garden shed, etc.

you think Mr Carey should have kept the snails in his garden? Justify you
