Updated 5/24/15 this study is two pages long.

Some say that Zechariah 2:5 and 2:10 says the LORD will dwell in our midst and because Jesus dwelt on earth he is
the same LORD who is the only God.
Before analyzing the two passages in question in Zechariah 2:5 and 2:10, I have analyzed the entire passage to
determine who exactly is speaking in each verse which becomes important when interpreting vs5 and vs10.
Zechariah 2:1-11 And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand!
2 Then I said, Where are you going? And he said to me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and
what is its length.
3 And behold, the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him
4 and said to him, Run, say to that young man, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because
of the multitude of people and livestock in it.
5 And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory in her midst.
Vs1 Zechariah lifted his eyes.
Vs2 A man came to measure Jerusalem with a measuring line. A symbol
Vs3 The angel delivering the message from God meets a second angel
Vs4 The second angel gave a message to the first angel regarding the future inhabitants
Vs5 The second angel quotes God saying that God will guard Jerusalem and be glory in its midst.
Up! Up! Flee from the land of the north, declares the LORD. For I have spread you abroad as the four winds
of the heavens, declares the LORD
7 Up! Escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.
8 For thus said the LORD of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches
you touches the apple of his eye:
9 Behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall become plunder for those who served them. Then
you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent me.

Vs6 The second angel tells the people in the north to leave
Vs7 The people are to go to Zion/Jerusalem and leave those who are the daughter of Babylon
Vs8 The second angel speaks regarding the apple of Gods eye
Vs9 The angel, or God, will shake his hand and they will know God sent the angel
10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the
11a And many nations shall join themselves to the LORD in that day,
11b and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst,
11c and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you.
12 And the LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.
13 Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.

Vs10 I will dwell in your midst is God coming to dwell in the midst of the people, the teachings of God are
coming to the people of the time after the restoration of the temple in 516BC.
Vs11 I have divided this verse into three parts in order to analyze it.
Vs11a The angel is speaking
Vs11b The LORD is speaking, or the angel in the LORDs stead.
Vs11c The angel speaking, confirming why he was there.
Vs12 The angel speaking f
Vs12 God already owns Judah, this refers to his covenant with the Israelites that will return and God will return to
the people in chapters 9-14 in the years after 516BC approx
Summary:
Throughout the entire book of Zechariah it is often not easy to always fully determine when the angel is speaking on
behalf of God, when he is speaking about himself, or when God is speaking.

The LORD will dwell in our midst is when God will show his mercy again that is discussed in Zechariah 1:12 and
1:16, and return to them. All this will be shown to have happened later during that time period between 530BC and
500BC approx. The main emphasis of the first several chapters of this book is that God is at work and plans to live
again with his people in Jerusalem. He will save them from their enemies and cleanse them from their sin!
There is an in depth thirty page analysis of all the OT prophecies (01F linked below), of God or his glory coming to
dwell/live on the earth, with the people or in His temple, and how each of those prophecies were fulfilled one or
more times throughout the OT. The prophesies are in Part 3A-3F (Zec 2:5 is in 3B, 2:10 is in 3E) and the OT
fulfillments are in Part 4A-4F. (Zech 2:5 and 2:10 were fulfilled in Zech 8:3 in 4E.) Some of the prophesies had near
and far fulfillment in the OT, some in both the OT and the NT.

way show that Jesus is God.
