This learning experience will take place in the classroom in a direct instruction and
small group settings. Students will be working face to face with their peers and
their instructors, utilizing technology to work towards a final product.

Resources:
IMovie
YouTube
Diversity / Differentiation:
Students are continuing this project as a part of their senior work. Students will
continue to work towards their goals. IEP students will be included in this
population.
Technology Inclusion:
Students will utilize the IPads heavily for this lesson. Students will be using
IMovie in order to record their personal statements. Students will then upload their
videos to YouTube and profide the link to the instructor.

VIII. Prior Knowledge: Students will have reviewed and created their scripts as part of their
previous homework and so should be familiar with what they will say during their personal
statement videos.
Lesson Placement in the Unit: This is lesson 7 of 10.

Procedures:
1. Lesson Introduction / Anticipatory Set:
Students will be issued IPads and asked to open IMovie. The instructor will give a
brief tutorial to the class via Apple TV in order to prepare students for their recordings.
2. Direct Instruction:
The instructor will answer any questions students have about IMovie and recording
their personal statements. For the most part students will be able to play with IMovie
and discover the application for themselves. Students will be learning through self
exploration with the guidance of the instructor.
3. Student Interaction with lesson content / Guided Practice:
Students will be interacting with the lesson content by taking the scripts they have
prepared the night before and using them to begin recording their personal statement
videos.

4. Independent Practice:
Students will take turns utilizing the IPads to record their fellow students
personal statements. Videos should be between 5 and 7 minutes and include the following
information but not limited to: brief life background, favorite subjects, volunteer work, interview
experiences, career exploration information, career paths which they hope to follow and why,

immediate future plans for after graduation. Once both students have recorded their audio, students
will individually work with IMovie to complete the necessary additions of pictures/media and utilize
proper editing to create a finished product which will be uploaded to www.YouTube.com and
embedded into their Weebly website.
5. Review / Closure:
Students should have completed the majority of their personal statement videos. Any
students who need extra time to work with the IPads should schedule after school hours
in order to access the technology that they need. Homework: have students speak with
their families regarding their financial situation in order to complete financial aid
forms, this includes annual income, claimed dependents, etc.
6. Presentations:
Students who have completed their final versions of their personal statements will
submit the YouTube link to the instructor for review. Students who have not completed
their personal statement videos must do so as soon as possible. Once the videos are
finalized they will be uploaded to their individual websites.
