Law & Order

Major Problems
Penal System

Suggestions
In Latin America countries the Penal
System is least enlightened. The
prisons are overcrowded and brutal.
The prisoners are beaten by staff and
other inmates. The homicide rate in
Latin American prisons is three times
higher than general population.
The government should put more of
their attention on taking control of the
prisons. In a lot of prisons, the
government is not in control at all the
inmates are.

Human Trafficking

The government should be making it a

safer environment. They should also
organize their prisons/create more
space so its not so overcrowded.
In Peru, between 2010 and 2012 there
were 50 human trafficking convictions.
In Latin America countries they fail to
convict anyone for Human trafficking.
The region struggles with convicting
people who are found guilty for this
crime. Only 10% of all the suspects
convicted for human trafficking were
actually charged. Human trafficking in
Latin America is named the third largest
illicit industry.
The system in Latin America should
focus on trying to convict those who are
found guilty for this crime so that they
cant go back into the world and keep
committing this crime. They should
invest more in anti-trafficking law
enforcement personnel.
Latin America has strengthened their
anti-human trafficking legislation. I
think they should continue with that so
they can help to put a stop to Human
trafficking in their area. Also, I think
creating more organizations to help
women or men who are stuck in human
trafficking and need help. People should

try to volunteer to do a victim outreach

or donate to local anti-trafficking
organizations in their area.
Drug Trafficking

Latin America is a geographic zone

known for drug production and
trafficking. Bolivia, Peru and Colombia
are the worlds main cocaine producers.
Central America, the Caribbean and
Mexico are the principle corridors for
transporting drugs into the United
States.
The government should give harsher
punishments to scare people to stop
selling drugs or transporting them. I
think it would be helpful if cops went
undercover to work with those involved
in the drug production.

Crime

Homicide rate

Creating more organizations to help get

rid of the drug trafficking in Latin
America.
43 of the most dangerous cities are
located in Latin America. Brazil is the
worlds second largest market for
cocaine. Many factors contribute to why
the crime rate in Latin America is so
high. The demand for cocaine, attempts
to suppress the drug trade, the spread
of organized criminal mafias and more.
The government should give harsher
punishments for those committing
crimes so maybe it will be a warning to
those who havent been caught. It could
help people to see that its not worth it.
Create organizations
Latin America is the worlds most
violent region. Venezuela had 16,549
murders in 2014. The homicide rate in
Latin America grew by 11% from 20002010. More than 1 million people have
died.
The government should continue
thinking of strategies for lowering
violence for this year.
The police should be on watch at all
time.

The police should have a watch groups

that stay the places with the most
murder rates. This will help people to
feel safer and might have people think
twice about killing if they know that
areas are being watched by police 24/7.
