The Effects of Teenage Pregnancy in Thailand
The effects of teenage pregnancy are the ability of child in the future, impact to health
and education. The purpose of this research report is to find out the effect of the teenage
pregnancy in Thailand. The benefit of this report is to help all teenage know if you pregnant,
it will affect in many sides of your life. The pieces of information found in this research
report are based on three sources. First, an article published by social.nesdb.go.th website
entitled Challenge of pregnancy in teenage, explained how it affect when you get pregnant
in many ways. Second, an article published by misacor-USA.org websites showed that
teenager who became pregnant are more likely dropped out of school. Lastly, the
ywamthai.org websites pointed that about 70 Thai women aged 15-19 already have children.
Health Impact
First, Health impact. If girls who pregnant in the first two years of menstruation, the
period of pelvis and vagina dont grow enough and the body is not ready to get pregnant.
From the result of other countries, It is found that almost teenage pregnancies are usually
from poor families and nutrition deficiency had high risk of preeclampsia anemia, postpartum
hemorrhage than older teens (Neal, Sarah, et al., 2012). Moreover, it will cause sexually
transmitted disease. In each year, HIV cases increase more than 10,000 cases and have risk in
young people aged between 15-24 years. The effect of this disease may be passed to babies
when they are born, causes uterine cancer in both of them, low birth weight and baby might
have problems to neurosis. In addition, abortion decisions reflect frustration, confusion and
nervousness, which happen to teenage mothers. A study several years ago showed that almost

half of the women would do abortion when they were pregnant in young ages. According to
the information a lot of young people who have been harmed due to complications from
abortion and the harmed caused from the abortion divided into three stages. First, harm that
occur while abortion or three hours after abortion, it will make you bleed. There is retention
of sodium in the blood. All of these complications may be the patients death.
Economic Impact
Secondly, economic impact, UNFPA state of the world population reported that in
2556 the World Bank identified if a girl could prevent pregnancy, it would affect the girls to
have power to bargain on social and economic and chance to learn more, may have such a
great job or the chance to earn the other hand thus investment in girls can contribute to
economy. On the other hand, the disadvantages of not investing to prevent pregnancy in
adolescents by lost revenue in that time for example if girls can postpone pregnancy at the
right time.It will be able to take that time to learn more for make the opportunity to work so
the national income will be increase. However, the World Bank reported that they are also
focus on the ability of lost production in labor market from teenage pregnancy which do not
include the cost of missing out from teenage health that affect the ability of the child to be
employed in the future but the real cost is also including the bad health of children such as
have short life, not have any skill and others factors could lead to higher costs that from the
rate of teenage pregnancy should be higher than this. The more teenage pregnancy the more
effect to economic. This impact will affect communities and the country as a whole rather
than the individual. The pregnancy in teenage will increase the cost to care for the complicate
from the unsafe abortion and others health condition caused.

Education Impact
Lastly, education impact. The relationship between teenage pregnancy and education
goes in both directions. Pregnancy in teen is the cause that make almost the student have to
stop learning or leave the school because they have to feed themselves while some of them
are still live with their parent or her husbands family as well as student pregnancy are not
accepted in Thailand but not have statistic that clear the amount of student that leave the
school because this reason(Nicaise, Tonguthai et al. 2000). The Ministry of Education
indicates that between the years 2548 to 2552, they were students from Mathayom1 to
Mathayom6 drop out halfway from the school overall about 135,342 persons. In this number
included the problems from marriage up to 19,178 persons that would be 14 percent of the
students which drop put halfway from the school. However, this information didnt cover the
student in private school, vocational training school and others school, even some school do
not have rule about pregnant students, but the pregnancy make discredit the family and feel
ashamed about sexually relationship before marriage, so parents dont want students to go to
school and students have to stop studying.
Conclusion
The purpose of this research report was to know some of the effects of teenage
pregnancy in Thailand. This research reports concluded that teenage pregnancy affects health
impact, caused sexually transmitted disease and education. I discovered the effects of teenage
pregnancy can affects many parts of their lives such as their children might have problem
about their emotion and girls could prevent pregnancy, they will be motivated to learn more
and can help with family income. This research reports recommend studies on the number of
pregnancy teenager in Asia.
