Question 1:
How high is the standard of the production? Does the
poster have a high quality to it? Does it accurately
look like a film poster? How have you manipulated
your images?

I received two 8s out of 10 for the quality of my

poster, said to be very detailed and clean. They
saw that I have used image adjustments,
cropping text and resizing tool.

Question 2:
How does the film poster adhere to the codes and
conventions of a film poster? Have the group included
all key elements such as masthead, tagline, rating,
horror imagery, or blurb?

One person said that I have all the genre

conventions; a threatening antagonist, use of
horror colour, masthead with horror conventions,
horror related props, tagline giving narrative
details, make-up and costume fitting horror
genre. But another peer did not think that my
Masthead had horror connotations and that I had
used make-up

Question 3:
How does the film poster adhere to the
conventions of the horror genre? Is the imagery
linked to horror narrative events, key characters or
mise-en-scene?

I adhered the horror conventions by using the

colours: black, white and red which relate to
the horror genre and by including a
threatening protagonist in my poster along
with a knife to emphasise the power that the
protagonist has.

Response for film poster construction

When constructing my horror poster,
I developed my skills using Photoshop as well as my photography skills as I had to decide what
location is suitable for the background although there was different obstacles in the way, for
example; there was a poster on the door that I had to use different Photoshop manipulations so
that you couldnt see it and the background behind the antagonist in the poster was of the
cafeteria so i had to adjust the levels of contrast and the black and white point to decide which
best suited the horror genre. I switched off the lights in the room so that you could see the
shadow of the antagonist reflecting in the room. I also had to layer the original photo over a
black background so that they blended together.
I used colours like black, red and white that relate to the horror genre, for example red connotes
revenge, blood and rage.
