3.

There are people who give expired or nearly expired

food.

2.

Due to the big campaigns, they have too much food to store
and not enough space prepared for storing it.

Theme: Distribution of the food

Insights:
1.

There is advice about sensitive topics, which can not be given

because of the cultural diversity.

2.

The lack of variety in food owned leads to a lack of variety in

food donated.

HMW

The people normally do not know where,

when and what they need to donate food.

How might we inform

people about where,
when and what they can
donate?

They do not have the infrastructure to

keep fresh food.

How might we create

infrastructure to keep
fresh food?

The lack of variety in food owned leads

to a lack of variety in food donated.

How might we increase

the distribution of varied
food?

THE RESULT

Critas Parroquial works closely with each family.

A caseworker studies every case and keeps close track of each one. This
allows the caseworker to know about the type and amount of food needed
in each home.
Besides, in order to facilitate the monitoring of the family situation,
delivery of food is made gradually, in a few quantities and always after
making an appointment with caseworker.
With this information, a good planning of needed food donations could be
made, considering the dates in which they need this food.

Once planning of the food donation is finished, including dates, we ask

ourselves the next question:
How might we inform donors about this planning?
We propose a Web platform in which the organizing committee makes a
schedule in a database. After that, each user could see this data in a
public way.

In the previous phase, we already mentioned that the user can see: Food + place
of delivery + date
In order to see this needed food, the user may use the web application or a
mobile application, because of the boom we are experiencing in such devices at
this time.
Everybody, who wants to make a donation, must book it through this platform. The
process will be very simple and intuitive.

Once the person has already booked the donation to be performed. Closer to the
delivery date (this depends on the product), the product must be bought.
There is a possibility of turning this phase and previous one inside out. For
example, if the user has a product which he does not need or sees a 2x1 offer in
the supermarket. he can go to our Web platform, look for a closer donation date
with this feature and book it..

Now that we have the food that we are going to donate, the only thing left to do is
to carry it to a specific delivery site. Always try to deliver the food in the best
condition.
It is a way to ensure that our donation will reach people in need.

The caseworker of Critas Parroquial will deliver the food at the appointment,
which he has with the needy family.
With this we have managed to deliver any kind of product, especially fresh food,
without the need to use storage facilities the cost of which could not be
assumed by a single parish.

THE NEXT
STEP

Development of a web application in order to provide a

infrastructure that facilitates the collection, storage and
distribution of donated fresh food. The application will
allow Critas to post a list of needed food at certain place
and date and allow the donors to reserve a food item in a
date, making a commitment.
The app will be tested in Critas Len and after that, after
it has been thoroughly tested, it will be introduced in
other places.
