1.) Application
The following assembly instructions serve the purpose of replacing seals and spare parts on existing
elevator systems.

2.) Structure
The drawings are structured so that a clear distinction is made between components and individual
parts.
The assembly drawings of the components are included after the overall drawing of the valve. Various
components such as the start-up and lowering valve pistons are not mentioned because they must be
assembled using special tools and can therefore only be obtained as a complete component ex factory.
For all tasks performed on valves ready for operation, the items
included in the chapter Safety instructions must be observed

3.) Fundamentals
- All assembly tasks must be carried out with the system shut down and depressurised.
- It is important to make that only original ALGI spare parts or seals are used.
- The assembly tasks must only be carried out using suitable tools.
- Dust and dirt must be kept away from the opened valve in any case.
- Following the assembly tasks, the valve must be bled of air as follows:

- Open the ball-type shutoff slowly.

- Undo the self-sealing lock nut of the adjustment screw S on the top
side of the valve.
- Use a properly fitting hexagon socket screw key to move the adjustment screw in the thread play until no more air escapes.
- Tighten down the lock nut again.

Elevator control blocks and mounted valves

Table of contents
1.) Description of a lifting drive (AZSTB 0 - III)
2.) Description of a lowering drive (AZSTB 0 - III)
3.) Function of the mounted valves

1.) Description of a lifting drive (AZSTB 0 - III)

Acceleration
The pump motor starts up with the help of a star/delta connection or a soft starting device. During the
running up of the soft starting device or the star connection, the oil conveyed by the pump flow almost
completely depressurised back into the tank.
The depressurised oil circulation is realised by means of a pre-setting of the start-up valve piston made
using the adjustment screw A.
When switching over to the delta connection, the solenoid valves V1 (S1) and V4 (S4) are excited simultaneously and, as a result, the start-up piston closes slowly. The closing speed and therefore the acceleration of the elevator can be changed by replacing the nozzle D1. Ideally, the elevator system should be
adjusted so that, with cold oil and empty elevator cage, it starts to drive away approx. 0.5 seconds following the excitation of the solenoid valves.
For the version with direct switching-on of the motor (valve designation 3MR), solenoid valve V1 (S1)
is missing. Here the valve V4 (S4) is excited simultaneously with the pump motor. The acceleration is
then carried out as described above.
Nominal speed
Following the acceleration phase, the start-up valve piston has closed completely and the elevator drives
at full speed.
The high lifting speed is solely dependent on the motor-pump combination.
Deceleration
At the deceleration point before the selected storey, the solenoid valve V4 (S4) is de-energised and the
deceleration phase is initiated.
The control oil, which previously closed the start-up valve piston, flows via the adjustable throttle D7
back into the tank. The start-up valve piston opens damped and lets a specific quantity of the oil conveyed by the pump flow back gradually into the tank. Due to the decreasing oil flow, the non-return
valve closes until a needle operated by this non-return valve allows control oil to flow to the start-up
valve piston again so that this piston cannot open any further. A residual quantity of working oil flows to
the cylinder which then moves at creep lifting speed. This speed can be adjusted at the screw SH.
In this phase, the quantity regulator ensures almost load-independent and temperature-independent deceleration.
Stopping
After reaching the storey, the pump motor and the solenoid valve V1 (S1) are switched off immediately
or the solenoid valve is de-energised already approx. 2 cm before the stopping location and the pump
motor remains switched on via time relay for approx. 1 second which results in a softer stopping operation (soft stop) using the nozzle D6.
When the storey has been reached, the pump motor is switched off, the non-return valve closes completely and the oil column settles down on it.

2.) Description of a lowering drive (AZSTB 0 - III)

Acceleration
The solenoid valves V2 (S2) and V3 (S3) are excited simultaneously so that the working oil is then conveyed back via the lowering valve stop piston via the adjustable throttle D3 into the tank.
The lowering valve piston including the lowering valve stop piston opens as a result and the working oil
underneath the lifting piston also flows back to the tank and the elevator accelerates up to full speed.

Nominal speed
When the lowering valve pistons have opened all the way to the stop of the adjustment screw HS, the
full lowering speed is reached.
The adjustment screw HS is used to limit the maximum lowering speed.
In this phase, the control slide gate installed upon customer request ensures equivalent lowering speed at
various temperatures and pressures.
Deceleration
At the deceleration point before the stopping location, the solenoid valve V3 (S3) is de-energised and
the deceleration phase is initiated.
Control oil then flows via the adjustable throttle D4 back to the lowering valve which closes damped up
to an adjustable residual cross-section. This residual cross-section determines the magnitude of the precision lowering speed and is adjusted at the spindle FS.
Stopping
After reaching the storey, the solenoid valve V2 (S2) is immediately de-energised or is switched already
approx. 2 cm before the stopping location so that the elevator drives softly into the storey with the help
of the nozzle 5 (soft stop).
3.) Function of the mounted valves
Safety valves
When the pressure in the control block exceeds the pre-set value, the safety valve opens so that the control oil can flow back from the start-up valve piston into the tank. Accordingly, the start-up piston can
then open and the oil conveyed by the pump can flow back to the tank.
Emergency discharge
In order to able to lower the elevator in case of malfunctions, manual operation of the solenoid valve V2
(S2) is possible.
Piston lowering prevention (KAV)
The piston lowering prevention device is used for 1:2 systems and is pre-set to a value of approx. 5 bar
ex factory.
This means that the control oil flows through the piston lowering prevention device during each regular
lowering drive. If the elevator cage is held in position for maintenance purposes and the pressure drops
below the pre-set 5 bar, the piston lowering prevention device will prevent unintentional lowering of the
piston and slack cable creation by shutting off the control oil in front of the solenoid valve.

Adjustment Instructions
EA - AZ 2 (E)

Elevator control blocks and mounted valves

Revision:
0
Date: 03.11.00
Sheet: 2 of 6

The following adjustment instructions should only be used for any readjustment that may be required in
addition since the valve has already been adjusted to its specified data ex factory. The adjustment of the
valve should be carried out at approx. 30 C.

Basic requirements:
-

hydraulic unit filled with clean oil (max. oil level)

shaft copying mechanism properly installed according to dimension
pump motor checked for correct direction of rotation
electric connections and lines checked and solenoid plugs correctly inserted

1.) Adjusting the excess pressure on the safety valve Si

- Use the pump to drive against the slowly closing ball valve and take a pressure reading.
- The correct setting is calculated as follows:
Pstat.max x 1,4
-

The P stat. max. value is included on the nameplate and on the maintenance documents.
For the adjustment of the safety valve, the following applies:
Turn inward (+) until the excess pressure to be adjusted can be seen on the pressure gauge.

2.) Adjustments in lifting drive

a.) D1 acceleration
Permanently adjusted ex factory, can only be changed by replacing the nozzle. The following applies:
larger nozzle = greater acceleration
smaller nozzle = less acceleration
b.)A start-up lifting adjustment
Spindle A influences the period of time between giving the command and starting up.
With an empty elevator cage and cold oil, the spindle must be adjusted so that the elevator starts up after approx. 0.5 seconds following excitation of the solenoids S4 and
S1. The following applies:
Turn inward = short time
Turn outward = longer time
This spindle must never be screwed in too far so that the elevator starts up abruptly following excitation of the solenoids.
c.)SH creep lifting speed
This screw is used to adjust the driving speed into the stopping location and therefore
also the stopping jolt. The following applies:
Turn inward = lower creep lifting speed
Turn outward = higher creep lifting speed

d.) D7 deceleration upward

The deceleration of the nominal speed to creep lifting speed can be changed using the screw D7 on
the solenoid valve S4. The following applies:
Turning inward results in soft transition, longer deceleration distance
Turning outward results in abrupt transition, shorter deceleration distance
e.) D6 soft stop
Only operative with pump run-on, after the solenoid S1 is de-energised in the stopping location. Permanently adjusted ex factory, can only be changed by replacing the nozzle. The following applies:
Smaller nozzle = softer stop
Larger nozzle = more abrupt stop

3.) Adjustments in lowering drive

a.)HS main lowering speed
The screw S is used to adjust the main lowering speed. The following applies:
Turn outward = higher main lowering speed
Turn inward = lower main lowering speed
b.) FS precision lowering speed
The screw FS is used to adjust the precision lowering speed. The following applies:
Turn outward = higher precision lowering speed
Turn inward = lower precision lowering speed
c.) D3 acceleration downward
The throttle screw D3 on the solenoid valve S2 is used to adjust the acceleration from 0 to the nominal
speed downward. The following applies:
Turn inward = softer start-up
Turn outward = more abrupt start-up
d.) D4 deceleration downward
The throttle screw D4 on the solenoid valve S3 is used to adjust the deceleration from nominal speed
to precision lowering speed. The following applies:
Turn inward = softer transition, longer deceleration distance
Turn outward = more abrupt transition, shorter deceleration distance
e.) D5 soft stop
Permanently adjusted ex factory, can only be changed by replacing the nozzle. The following applies:
Smaller nozzle = softer stop
Larger nozzle = more abrupt stop

The pressure switch is an overload safety device. It is operated by the pressure

from the cylinder. The adjusted pressure must be higher than the static pressure
at full load but lower than the adjusted pressure at the pressure limitation valve.
The following adjustment applies

Pstat.max x 1,3
The adjustment functions as follows:
Turn inward = increase shutoff pressure
Turn outward = decrease shutoff pressure
The pressure limitation switch is pre-set by the factory.
For explanation of the electric connections, refer to catalogue sheet
4.2) Version in accordance with EN 81-2
SUHVVXUHVFDOHLQ
EDU

Operator panel of the electronic

pressure switch:
- -pushbuttons for adjustment
-LED chain for pressure indication
-LED yellow for indication of the
switching state

This pre-set pressure switch detects whether an overload of 10%

of the nominal load, but at least 75 kg, in accordance with EN
81-2 has been achieved and reports this via a switching signal. A
driving-away of the elevator cage in case of overload is to be
prevented and therefore the use of a device in the safety circuit is
not possible. For explanations of the technical data and the connections, refer to catalogue sheet.
a.) Normal operation
During normal operation, the green LED chain indicates the current valve pressure and, by means of
a blinking LED, the switching point with an accuracy of 10 bar in each instance. The yellow LED
indicates the switching state, as a break or make contact according to use.
b.) Programming
To adjust the switching point, press down the pushbutton SET S ENTER for approx. 5 seconds until
is indicated in a resolution of 1 bar. As soon as the indication is running, the value can also be changed using the inching mode. The illuminated LED then indicates the scale value and the blinking LED
1/10 of the scale value. Example 57 bar:

The changed value is stored by pressing the key SET R ENTER S. The new value becomes effective
and the device jumps back to normal operation..
The return switching point is automatically set 1 bar lower and therefore does not need to be programmed. The new setting is locked by pressing both pushbuttons simultaneously for approx. 10
seconds. Following the locking operation, the display goes out for a short time.

5.)Testing the piston lowering prevention device (KAV)

The piston lowering prevention device ensures unintentional lowering of the piston rod in
case of jamming of the elevator cage or in case of activation of the catching device (solenoid valve V2 (S2) electrically or manually during operation) and checks the control
block minimum pressure at which the lowering valve is closed whenever this value is
exceeded.
The piston lowering prevention device is generally adjusted to a fixed setting of 3 bar; an
alteration of the response pressure is not possible
Procedure:

Drive elevator cage approx. 2 m upward.

Support elevator cage or put into catching device.
Undo the piston rod from the elevator cage.
Press emergency discharge button - piston rod must not descend alone.

6.) Adjustment of the bypass valve

The bypass valve is installed between the valve block or manual pump and the connection flange. It is used test the pipe rupture valve during a TV (German technical
control board) inspection. To operate the bypass valve, the test wheel must rotated
counterclockwise. If the pipe rupture valve does not respond, an increase in the flow
rate is required. The adjustment is made as follows
-

Undo the lock nuts.

Unscrew the throttle screw 1-2 revolutions.
Test setting.
Screw in throttle screw and lock in place

7.) Adjustment of the manual pumps
The manual pump is installed for hydraulic systems with a catching device and suspension 1:2. For the valve
blocks AZSTB / AZRV 1 and AZSTB / AZRV 2, the manual pump of the type HP 25 is used. It is flangemounted between the ball valve and valve block.
The pump can be installed in two different positions. The manual pump can be rotated by 180 degrees in
each instance by undoing the 4 flange screws.
For the valve block AZSTB 0 and III, the manual pump of the type 22 is used. It is permanently installed on
the cover.
The manual pump is generally used for lifting out of the catching device.
To protect the hydraulic system, the manual pump is equipped with a pressure limitation valve. For the adjustment of the pressure limitation valve, the following applies
:
adjustment = P stat. max x 2,3
Adjustment:
Undo lock nut. Use the adjustment screw to set the calculated pressure. Clockwise rotation will increase the
pressure, and counterclockwise rotation will decrease the pressure, which is indicated on the pressure gauge.

Table of contents
1. Malfunctions in lifting drive
2. Malfunctions in lowering drive
The items used are included on the sheet Assembly Instructions Control Block and the adjustment instructions used on the sheet Adjustment Instructions Control Block.

1.) Possible malfunctions in lifting drive

Internal leakage so that the elevator picks up again frequently
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Check whether the sealing washer (Item 25) of the lowering valve piston has been damaged by dirt particles. If there are any pressure marks, the sealing washer must be replaced.
b) Check whether the precision lowering valve V2 (S2) is leaky. The best way is by replacing the valve or
by checking it with the solenoid valve test board.
c) Check whether the seal of the lowering valve piston (Item 8) or the lowering valve stop piston is damaged. If this is the case, the entire piston must be replaced.
d) In case of damage, replace the sealing ring of the non-return valve piston.
When being put into service, the elevator has no creep lifting drive.
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Check whether the solenoid valves V1 (S1) and V4 (S4) have been correctly connected. During the
entire lifting drive, V1 (S1) must be energised and V4 (S4) de-energised at the start of deceleration.
b) Throttle D7 is screwed in too far. Unscrew throttle approx. 1/8 revolution.
Following a longer period at standstill with cold oil, the elevator no longer has creep lifting capacity.
(machine room is not heated)
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Unscrew throttle D7 approx. 1/8 revolution and move the curves for switching off the solenoid valve V4
(S4) in order to extend the creep travel distance.
Elevator does not engage in lifting drive; no pressure is built up.
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Clean filter of solenoid valves V1 (S1) and V4 (S4).
b) Solenoid valves V1 (S1) and V4 (S4) may be defective.
c) Clean nozzle D1 underneath valve V1 (S1).
d) Setscrew A has been unscrewed too far.
e) Safety valve tappet (Item 17) is jammed.
When under load, the elevator stops in lifting drive
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Check maximum pressure; setting may be too low.
b) For the block type AZSTB IA 4MR, the solenoid valves may have been incorrectly connected or the
valve V1 (S1) may be defective.
c) Creep lifting speed is set too low, the elevator stops before reaching the stopping location or does not
pick up again.

Elevator starts up too abruptly in lifting drive

Elimination of malfunction:
a) Nozzle D1 has become undone, must be screwed down firmly again.
b) Nozzle D1 too large, use smaller nozzle.
c) Non-return valve (Item 9) defective, hammer new ball into place.
Elevator remains stationary with warm oil in creep lifting drive
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Seal of start-up valve piston defective, replace.
b) Non-return valve of start-up valve piston defective, hammer new ball into place.

2.) Possible malfunctions in lowering drive

Elevator does not go into lowering drive and also cannot be lowered using the emergency discharge valve
V2 (S2).
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Open throttle D3 slightly.
When being put into service, the elevator has no creep lowering drive.
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Check whether the solenoid valves V1 (S1) and V3 (S3) have been correctly connected. During the
entire lowering drive, V2 (S2) must be energised. V3 (S3) is de-energised at the start of precision
lowering speed.
b) Unscrew throttle D4 approx. 1/8 revolution.
Following a longer period at standstill with cold oil, the elevator no longer has precision lowering speed.
The oil is much colder than during the last operation or the machine room is not heated and therefore
exposed to extreme temperature variations.
Elimination of malfunction:
a) Unscrew throttle D4 approx. 1/8 revolution and move the curves for switching off the solenoid valve
V3 (S3) in order to extend the switching-off distance.

Sheet: 1 of 1

1.) Purpose
The maintenance of the elevator control blocks and their mounted valves serves the purpose of keeping
the elevator system in a perfect and safe state of operation at all times

2.) Measures
- Cleaning:

The valve must be cleaned externally of dust and dirt so that even smaller leaks
can be detected. The applies especially to the connecting points with the mounted
valves, ball-type shutoff valve and hydraulic line.
The use of aggressive cleaning agents must be renounced in order to exclude any
form of damage to the seals. Loose parts on the hydraulic unit cover must be
removed

- Inspection:

Verification of the valve for external leaks, damage or deformations. Self-sealing

nuts on adjustment spindles must be re-tightened as required or defective sealing
elements renewed with original spare parts. Damaged parts (setscrews, lock nuts,
etc.) must be renewed. During the trial drives, attention must be paid to untypical
noise development. Verification of the valve for internal leaks by closing the ball
valve and checking the pressure gauge. If an extreme drop in pressure is detected,
the internal seals must be renewed by referring to the assembly instructions

- Trail operation:

During the trial operation, the systems must be protected from being used. The
driving characteristics of the elevator cage must be checked as well as the achievement of high speeds in both directions and the corresponding functions of the
mounted valves.
