Genre Product Defense Paper - Revision

To help in the inquiry process of finding an answer to government involvement in

cultural affairs, a variety of papers have been written, including a creative piece based on
a certain genre of writing. The majority of the sources used in this inquiry were online
news articles. In an attempt to show someconvey originality, I chose to make the product
in the form of a war mapthe product was made in the form of a war map. Like an actual
war, different conflicts appear in different places. The only difference between an actual
war and the conflicts in my this inquiry is that my the inquiry deals with more than two
sides and more than one issue. I left out anyAny non-current events were left out from
myof the inquiry path in my the product so as to not to confuse the audience. The map
shows a war on multiple fronts. The link between these fronts is that they show a
dispute between a culture and a bureaucratic power. The map just shows how each of
these conflicts, though in different regions of the Earth, share the same characteristic in
that they show a cultural group fighting against a government. This nature of conflict is
the basis for the inquiry at hand.
The intended audience of my this product/presentation is all peopleany American
who wants order above everything else and want wishes for the conflicts to find their
separate resolutions.
Looking at all of these conflicts together, it can be concluded that the quickest
resolutions can be found on the governments side.At first glance, one might assume that
the quickest and easiest way to end these conflicts would be to let governments take full
control. Take border control for example. Donald Trump, who is currently running for
Republican Presidential nominee made a statement that essentially snubbed illegal

Mexican immigrants as rapists that brought nothing but crime across our borders. He
proposes that a wall be built across the U.S.-Mexico border and waves off opposing
arguments by adding I will build the wall and Mexico's going to pay for it and they will
be happy to for it. Because Mexico is making so much money from the United States that
that's going to be peanuts. (LoBianco 2) Despite his statements on illegal immigrants
seemingly being the cause for shooting him to the top of the GOP polls, Bill OReilly, a
fellow republican felt the need to correct and defend Trumps statements by stating that
the vast majority of illegal immigrants are poor, undereducated farmers who just want to
feed their families (OReilly 2). This was in an effort to steer people from considering
Trump as one who commits group defamation. Group defamation, as Eberle put it, is
when a group of people [is] tarnished by speech as well as an individual. This can be
due to ethnicity, nationality, gender, or other status. (Eberle 214) OReilly added that
the rape issue that Trump mentioned is predominantly directed towards migrant women
by gangsters associated with the Mexican cartel, which makes money out of smuggling
illegal immigrants into the U.S. (OReilly 4) After this correction, he went one to blame
the federal government for this issue due to poor law enforcement at the border. Both of
these men agree that iIf for instance, border control is sufficiently secured on the USMexican border, the conflict will cease because the illegal immigration will cease. Only
the government can accomplish this action.
An Some might agree that the optimal resolution to racial conflicts in the south
would be to use legislation to amplify the punishments for hate crimes to help decrease
the injustice that takes place because it is more effective than an uprising and more
dignified than inaction. This includes discrimination by law enforcement officials such as

police officers who may abuse their power to use it against people of color, including
women (Alter, 6). If this is to become reality, then it is almost certain that police and
other public officials should be even more tightly regulated considering recent events.
According to Buzzfeed News, since 2014 upwards of 16 unarmed black people have been
shot by police officers (Quah 47). This injustice is still taking place today with the latest
murder being that of Sandra Bland just last week. The people are neededIn order to help
pass this type of legislation, Congress must vote in favor of it in order for the bill to be
passed. Congressmen, when wishing to be re-elected, are very conscious of public
opinion and wish to appeal to it. In other words we, the public, can push Congress to vote
for a bill that increases the harshness of punishments for acts of racism by law enforcers.
such as these and this inquiry is meant to show why this type of support is needed.
Regarding foreign affairs, U.S. intervention in Syria is a controversial topic with
strong arguments on both sides. Most people on both sides want the moderate rebel forces
to overthrow the Assad regime. Those who are opposed insist that in the face of an attack
by the U.S. on Syria, Assad would not be deterred, but rather he would remain defiant.
(Fisher 10) This argument is countered with the proposal that a smart military strategy
could be implemented to weaken Assad as well as the newly formed ISIS (Fisher 12).
Many mediators in the government have resolved with the decision to help the rebels by
giving them weapons, a slower path to success that avoids sullied hands. In mid-late
2014, Congress decided to give $500 million, weapons, and training would be given to
the rebel forces. (Kinder 1) A third factor has opened the possibility that the U.S. may
change positions in the Syrian conflict. According to former U.S. ambassador to Syria
Ryan Crocker, ISIS is by far the largest threat. (Taylor 2) While the U.S. siding with

Assad is unlikely, the self-proclaimed Islamic State, presents as a global threat. This fact
begs the consideration of the effects of siding with Assad. However, it has been
confirmed that Assad refuses to fight ISIS as he sees them as a useful force for weakening
the Syrian rebels. If the U.S. were to side with Assad, which would not make sense at this
point, then ssince the Assads government is more organized and unified than the rebel
forces, its victory can be more easily achieved than one by the rebels, especially with the
help of ISIS, than victory for the rebels (Baker, 1). Then once the rebels are taken down,
the U.S.N can be used to help Assad take down the ISIS threat.
These current events force us look at the world around us in a more critical
manner, which either causes solutions to real-life problems to be made, or for more
problems themselves to appear. The evidence acquired in this inquiry leads people to
believe that in most cases of cultural dissension, governments achieve the quickest and
most effective resolutions. This being said, the people technically rule our government.
This means that as a collection we, the people, have the power to fix most of the
problems that plague us. In an attempt to rally the people and get organized to end the
conflicts, this presentation was shown in the form of a war map, which commands
attention and outlines a clear resolve. This defense would be most fitting if it were printed
in a national newsletter that addressed everyone in the country. The map itself would be
at its most effective if it were presented on national television to reach the widest possible
audience. Perhaps another effective implementation would be showing the product
presentation as an Internet ad on YouTube and other sites.
