New Ways of Conceiving Architecture

Theory: The process of design of architecture is directly/indirectly affected by the media
utilized by the architect.

Habitat design is probably as old as civilization itself and the methods used by us to help
conceive these designs have been changing as well. In todays age, we are making a transition
from pencil drawing and pen draughting to virtual modeling and CAD draughting. Our seminar
will aim at looking into how these different media can influence/limit our thinking of
architectural design.
Our design processes are and have been visual in nature, however architecture is not just a
visual media, it involves the construction of elements which cater to all senses. Is it possible to
transcend beyond this visual media to a more spatial one? Is it possible to train visually
impaired architects? These are some of the questions we would like to explore and hopefully,
answer through our seminar.

River front development

Theory: The water body is the life line of the city, the city eventually deteriorates without
it.
In the recent political scenario, the promising Modi Sarkar is encouraging the development of
riverfronts. Our seminar will evolve around untouched aspects of living around water bodies
and their influence on the mind and body. Without the waterbody, the city loses its charm.
We would like to explore psychological, sociological and economical aspects of a water body.
We would like to rethink the concepts used behind current riverfront development.

Theory: Till what extent does money influence architecture?
We all know that economics play a very important role in construction industry. It gives us a
threshold in practical application of architectural concepts. But is it stopping us from doing the
better for the greater good?
We would like to explore the factors in play and the extents established by the role of
economics in architecture.
