Course Information

Course Description
The fundamental purpose of Algebra is to formalize and extend
the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades.
The critical areas, organized into units, deepen and extend
understanding of linear relationships, in part by contrasting them
with exponential phenomena and quadratic situations.
Students will experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and
logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of
problem situations.
Students in this course will also be taught the first three units in
the next course Geometry. The critical areas, organized into units,
deepen and extend understanding of similarity, congruence, and
proofs. In addition students will understand the relationships with
special right triangles and the use of trigonometric ratios to solve
problems.

Course Goal
The course goal is to prepare, take, and pass the
Georgia Milestones with at least a 70 at the midterm of
the academic year.
The Georgia Milestones is a statewide standardized,
assessment comprised of multiple choice and free
response questions geared towards material learned
throughout since the beginning of the year.
You will be encouraged to prepare and do well on the
Georgia Milestones all year round the examination is
20% of course average.
