PASCALS

PRINCIPLE

Pascals principle states that

pressure applied to an enclosed
liquid is transmitted equally to
every part of the liquid.

Hydraulic systems

This allows the

lifting of a heavy
load with a small
force, as in an auto
hydraulic lift

F1 =
A1

P2

F2
A2

APPLICATIONS
1. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
The output force is given by :
F2 =

A2 X F1
A1

F1 = input force

A1 = small piston area

F2 = output force

A2 = large piston area

Automobile hydraulic lift

Force multiplied by
hydraulic press,
based on Pascal's
principle. The fluid
in the small
cylinder must be
moved much
further than the
distance the car is
lifted.
