Viva Preparation

You will be required to book an appointment for a review of your understanding of the Science
concepts covered in the Business of Bubbles project. Ms. Smith, Mr. Folland and Mr Swann will be
available at various times through the week.
These ideas are covered in the Podcasts. You may bring notes or dot points to help with your
discussion

It is important that you observe, question and make meaning to understand the
science of fermentation. Discuss with others to reinforce your understanding.
Low C level
Basic understanding of fermentation.
Basic understanding of the elements of the periodic table (first ten).
Identify the molecule produced as a result of fermentation.
Understand the properties of Alcohol
Identify the three sugars discussed during the process.
Identify the difference between Aerobic and Anaerobic process

Medium B level

An ability to explain the reaction including the molecules that are involved in the chemical
reaction of fermentation.
identify the first ten elements of the periodic table and what makes each different.
identify the factors that improve or retard the fermentation process.
Understand the properties and structure of Alcohol
Identify the three sugars discussed during the process and the formula for each.

High A level
An ability to write out and explain the chemical reaction of fermentation.
Identify the characteristics of elements, their structure and how the join (bond) with other
elements to form molecules. Include atomic mass.
Identify the factors that improve or retard the fermentation process.
