The Start of World War I


World war I started in
the Balkans.
On June 28, 1914,
archduke Franz
Ferdinand of AustriaHungary and his wife
were murdered in
Sarajevo, BosniaHerzegovina.

America Enters the War


At the start of World War
I, President Wilson had
declared the neutrality of
the United States.
The sinking of the
Lusitania and other
German actions against
civilians drew American
sympathies to the Allies.

war had taken the

when Germany
invaded Poland.

nations eventually
joined the Axis.
