NOTE:

Cheating/Plagiarism is immoral and akin to lying. In other words, cheating/plagiarism is an act

of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward. The students
that are in my class are of the ages 14-18 and need to begin to take on the responsibility that
accompanies this age. The student will be held accountable for their actions and learn that there
is a consequence for every action. Cheating/Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any form
including (but not limited to):

stealing someone elses ideas and passing them off as your own
giving yourself an unfair advantage
copying answers from someone else on a test, quiz, exam, or homework assignment
letting someone copy answers from your test, quiz, or assignment
verbally or in writing giving or receiving help on a test or quiz
talking or communicating with another student in any way during a test is prohibited
using unauthorized cheat sheets, notes, or other reference material (paper or electronic) during a test, quiz, or assignment
looking up answers on the Internet or other sources
turning in someone else's work as your own (allowing someone else to do the work for you)
Helping another student to cheat
Do not give your homework assignments to anyone else. If they choose to copy the work you have given them, you are responsible.
Studying together in groups is fine, but this is very different from passing work back and forth. The instructor will indicate if it is acceptable
to work with a partner. Otherwise, understand that the work you turn-in should be your own.
discussing specific test or quiz items with someone from a period who has not yet taken the test or quiz
seeing, examining, or referring to someones already graded assignment or the key before you have turned your assignment in
when grading an assignment of your own, purposefully giving yourself a higher grade than you actually earned
any similar dishonest practice as the aforementioned items

Parents:
I look forward to speaking with you during Open House. I will provide quick feedback either in writing or by phone
if I see a potential problem throughout the semester, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you have
concerns as well. Emails are preferred as we do not have telephones accessible in the classroom.
FCBOE will be providing each Algebra 1 student with access to an electronic textbook. Please indicate below
whether or not you wish to receive a hardback copy of the textbook (replacement cost for lost or damaged book:
$85.00).
Electronic text only

Below, please sign to acknowledge that you have read and understand the policies contained in the Algebra 1
syllabus. Also, please check to make sure the contact information in Infinite Campus is correct that I may reach
you easily. Thanks!

Milestone score is placed on your transcript and
counts as 20% of your second semester grade.

Culminating Tasks: These tasks are performance based. Some tasks may last more than one day. These tasks will be
completed with assigned groups. If a student is absent, then they will schedule a time to complete the task and will work
individually.
Benchmarks: These will be individual ONLINE Assessments that each student will need to complete and submit their
results before the due date. The student may utilize the schools media center and/or computer lab on their own time if
they do not have access to a computer at home.

Methodology: The following will be used to create a diverse learning environment: A variety of formal and informal
assessments, technology integration, differentiated strategies, integration of multiple representations, emphasis on
real-life applications, and making connections with content in other subjects or mathematics learned previously.
Classroom Expectations
Behavior expectations:
Goal: A positive, comfortable, and enjoyable learning experience for every student every day.
1. Exercise respect and courtesy for others at all times.
2. Leave all food and drinks in your locker (water is fine) we want a clean, pest-free, environment.

Academic Expectations
1. Arrive with all necessary tools for learning. Supplies must be brought to class every day.
2. Assignments will be checked on a regular basis for completion and accuracy.
3. Missing/Late Assignments: You are responsible for making up all work missed when absent. Any student that is
absent must turn in all previously assigned work the day he/she returns. Missing and late assignments will be
entered as a grade of zero in the gradebook until turned in. Assignments not turned in within 5 days will remain a
zero. Unless returning from an absence, late daily assignments will receive partial credit.
4. All work must be shown in order to receive any credit.
5. Label all papers with name, period, and date.
Quizzes and Tests
Test dates will be announced in advance. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.
You must schedule a time before or after school to make up a missed test. All missed tests must be made up within one
week of the test date. It is the students responsibility to schedule a make-up test with the teacher. Students can retake
a maximum of two tests per semester if they did not achieve their desired score only after completing activities that
would demonstrate additional practice on the material covered on the test. Please refer to the Request to Retest
form located on Edmodo.
** A student who pulls out a cell phone, IPod, or similar electronic during a quiz or test will receive a 0%.
Extra Help
Extra help is available before and after school. The Math Lab in room 222 is open Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to
8:25 am and 3:50 pm to 4:15 pm. The Math Lab is staffed by peer tutors who are members of the SCHS Math Team. I
