and

the

Thursday,
March
30th,
President
Kieschnick
will
read
excerpts
and
sign
copies
of
his
new
book

Waking
the
Sleeping
Giant,
which
shares
his
assessment
of
the
LCMS’
birth,
growth,
decline,
and

rebirth.
The
event
takes
place
in
the
newly
opened
Concordia
Historical
Museum,
located
at
the

LCMS
International
Center
(1333
South
Kirkwood
Rd.
St.
Louis,
MO
63122)
at
6:00
p.m.




In
this
new
book
released
by
Concordia
Publishing
House
(CPH),
Kieschnick
thoroughly
describes
and

evaluates
a
church
body
that
has
grown
to
over
2.4
million
members
since
its
beginning
in
1847.

However,
like
all
other
churches
in
the
United
States,
the
LCMS
is
also
experiencing
a
time
of

significant
change.





When
asked
about
his
choice
of
title,
Kieschnick
answers,
“As
I
thought
about
a
“sleeping
giant,”
I

discovered
.
.
.
I
don’t
believe
we’re
sleeping
anymore.
I
believe
the
giant
is
awakening,
and
in
many

cases,
has
already
been
awake
for
a
long
time.
That’s
where
the
problem
with
the
term
“sleeping

giant”
comes
in.
It’s
not
like
this
church
body
has
been
comatose
for
163
years.
So,
Waking
the

Sleeping
Giant
just
seemed
to
be
the
most
appropriate
title
to
me.
