Salutations Commander Mon Mothma,

We, researchers of an unnamed facility, have heard of your contest for a proficient
design for Project Alderaan 7. In groups of four - Erick, Hanna, Robby and myself - we each
created a design to aid you. Each of us have tested mini models of our designs 15 times from
510 centimeters away to gain results to share with you. From extensive research, weve also
made graphs to prove that our final design is the most praiseworthy weve created.

As you can see, most of our designs follow the traditional outline of an airplane,
weve created paper versions for our models. However, Robby had decided to create a unique,
circular design (Figure 1a). Ericks paper model (Figure 1b) was made of a lighter paper than
the other models and had tape to make it tougher against the wind when being thrown. There
were less folds needed to create this model and was the longest model out of all four. My
model was heavier than Ericks and made out of heavier paper. Mine (Figure 1c) had a wide,
blunt nose and pointed wings to cut through the air when flying. Hannas model (Figure 1c)
had a pointed nose and was made out of the same paper as mine. Her models wings were
narrow and had a hole in the back, which let air hold it back slightly when being flown.
The results may surprise you though.
We had first decided to test Robbys model.
When testing his model, weve noticed that
although it has the most inconsistent distance
from the target, is has the most consistent
landing area, shown in the graph here. Robbys
paper model continued to land in the same
quadrant at least twice in a row. However, Robbys
design obviously wont be useful for your uses.
Ericks design had a tendency to fly backwards
once thrown, making his design a less than
satisfactory design.
Due to this, his model
always landed in the 2nd or 3rd quadrant. Rather,
the light weight and strange nose may work better
towards tricky maneuvers.

My design had been the closest average to the

target, flying straight and slowly descending near
the target. Although it seems to be a good choice for Project Alderaan 7, it also seems that
Hannas design was more consistent and safer than mine. Looking at our bar charts with
error bar belows, youll notice that our averages distances were very close, mine barely
beating hers by about 11 cm. You would also notice Hannas error bar is slightly smaller
than mine, making her design more trustworthy for Project Alderaan 7. If youre interested,
well be more than happy to share our designs with a small fee or an award for our hard work.
