Session focus

session
For the children to be able to understand where we can see time, the features of a clock and how to
tell the time in Oclock.
Preparation
Identify materials, equipment, space and pre-session organisation

- Clocks for children
- Peppa Pig
- Children can sit on chairs at tables or use clipboards on the floor
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Outline each step to be taken during the teaching session
1. Introduce Math Focus: Features of a clock and telling the time using Oclock.
2. Group activity:
Features of a clock
Show the children pictures of both analogue clocks and digital clocks
Have a piece of paper to draw a clock for the children to see and label it
The big hand and small hand = Hour hand and minute hand
Dots = minutes, explain how theres 60 minutes on a clock
Numbers = hours
Activity for telling the time using Oclock.
Get children to work with the small clocks to be able to make the clocks the different times.
Ask children if the big hand is on the 12 and the small hand is on the 7 what time will it be when
Peppa Pig wakes up? For each time, ask the children to move the hands to make it that specific
time so they can see it.

Children can then go home and look at their clocks to be able to see the time.
