2. A car of weight 12 000N stands on level ground. The pressure on each of its four
identical tyres is 300 kPa. What is the area of contact between each tyre and the
ground?

3. David visits a pond that is 12 m deep and has water of density 1000 kg / m 3.
a) Calculate the pressure at the bottom of the pond due to the water.

b) Atmospheric pressure on that day is 1.0 105 Pa. Calculate the total pressure at
the bottom of the pond.

4. A mooring buoy is tethered to the bottom of a sea water loch by a vertical cable as
shown. The density of sea water is 1.02 x 10 -3 kg m 3

a) Calculate the total pressure on the top of the buoy.

b) Calculate the total pressure on the bottom of the buoy
