Did you know Apple was started in a garage that turned into a multibillion industry? (Clark, Woo, Mattoli, 2011) From IPhones, MacBooks, and
IPods, Apple gave technology a whole new meaning. Apple products are
successful and influential today because Steve Jobs survived, thrived, and
changed society due to his passion for technology. Although Steve Jobs
lacked technical expertise, he designed Apple products the correct way to
make products last longer.
Apple has become a very successful company in todays society. Steve
Jobs has changed the technology world in many ways with the different
devices Apple has created. If the first Macintosh computer was not created
during the 1970s, there would be no future for iPhones, IPods, or iPads
(Peter Pachal, 2011). Apple has sold over 100 million iPhones and 30 million
iPads since the first release of these products (Peter Pachal, 2011). One
keynote how Apple changed smartphones is the multi-touch gesture and the
pinching and finger swipes have become similar usage to a computer mouse
(CBS News). Shopping has also become easier for cell phone users and
because of the simplicity; users have switched to the iPhone (CBS News). The
camera on the smartphone improved with the development of the iPhone
and mobile applications have also evolved, making everything easier (CBS
News). Lastly, Google map was established with the iPhone, it gives every
iPhone user the tool to get to any location with the touch of the screen (CBS

News). Lastly, texting on the smartphone completely changed with the
release of the iPhone. The text messaging on the iPhone has continuous text
conversations with no character limits (CBS News). These few ways the
iPhone changed users lives.
Mobile competitors believe Apples influence is felt throughout the
world. All of Apples products are made into small handheld devices that are
capable of doing a lot (Peter Pachal, 2011). Another factor of Apple products
that have influenced technology would include the IOS software. Prior to the
release of IOS, Nintendo and Sony ruled the gaming market (Lowe, 2011).
As of today, IOS is selling more devices than these two companies combined
(Lowe, 2011). The reason it has become so popular in society is due to the
fact of its fresh design, touch-enabled control schemes, and digital delivery
methods (Lowe, 2011). Also, society has turned to IOS because the mobile
applications have become more accessible to download and the iTunes app
store has thousands of games to download from (Lowe, 2011). It makes it
simple for anyone at any age to download the mobile applications. It has
become very convenient for Apple users.
In 2001, Steve developed the iPod, which allowed listeners to carry
songs in their pocket (Lowe, 2011). Because of the huge success of this
product, Apple created the iTunes store, which debuted in 2003 (Lowe,
2011). The iTunes store was very successful and sold 100 million songs
within the year (Lowe, Oct 2011). Because of the success with music, it now

sells, movies, television shows, and digital books (Lowe, 2011). As of today,
this service is the largest digital store in the world. Steve Jobs also developed
the iPad, which is the most successful tablet to this date (Lowe, 2011).
Another keynote to Apples lead in the technology world is their innovation
style. Their innovation style is simultaneous and holistic. Their products do
not move around team member, however they all work together (Elliot and
Simon, 2011). Also, small details to products, like product packaging have
major success on the product (Jay Elliot and William Simon, 161, 2011).
Steve Jobs has a very diverse background on technology and how he
began Apple. Steve was born on February 25th, 1955 in San Francisco,
California (AllAboutSteveJobs.com, 2014). He was later adopted to a family
from Santa Clara, California in the 1950s (AllAboutSteveJobs, 2014). During
this time in Silicon Valley, computer engineering started to develop, which
was important for Steves future in technology (AllAboutSteveJobs.com,
2014). Throughout Steves high school career at Homestead High, he
enrolled in an electronics class and befriended those interested in
electronics. After high school, Jobs enrolled in Reed College, but only lasted
one semester until he dropped out (AllAboutSteveJobs, 2014). Even though
he was no longer paying tuition, he was able to audit the classes that
interested him (Dormehl, 2012). After dropping out, He moved back to
California and became employed with Atari, a video game maker (Dormehl,
2012). Nolan Bushnell, an electrical engineering graduate from the

University of Utah, started Atari, a popular center for computer graphics
(Dormehl, 2012). Bushnell developed a software game named Pong, which
was a digital game of tennis (Dormehl, 2012). This became a huge hit in the
software world and turned Atari into the leading company in software
(Dormehl, 2012). With the money earned at his job, he traveled to India to
seek enlightenment. However, at first, Jobs did not have enough money to
financially support himself on the trip to India. He worked out a compromise
with Atari to be flown to Europe to solve technical issues for the company,
which then he was able to afford his travel expenses to India (Dormehl,
2012). After his trip, Steve returned to the United States to work for Atari.
He was offered the opportunity to design the circuitry for a new game named
Breakout (Dormehl, 2012). He was not able to design this software, so he
called Steve Woziak, an employer of Hewlett-Packard, to assist with the
design (Dormehl, 2012). Breakout was an updated version of the game
Pong, but with updated features. It became the most popular arcade game
of the 1970s. From there, Steve Jobs started his own business, named
Apple. The name came from a biblical metaphor The Fruit of Knowledge:
the Apple. (Dormehl, 2012).
Dating back to the 1970s, Steve Jobs changed Apple products that
changed the technology world. On January 1977 in Palo Alto, California,
Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs prese0nted the Apple two: an updated version
of Apple one (McCraken, 2014). The Apple two was faster, better graphics,

and many features (Dormehl, 2012). On January 24th, 1984, Apple formally
announced at their shareholder meeting the release of the computer. It was
the first computer with graphics. Also, Microsoft office started on the mac
(McCraken, 2014). The product launched during this time and became
successful for these two businessmen. Before the Apple 1 came along,
computers were not sold as machines, but as kit forms. Apple products were
hassle free and could be used in minutes (Marshall, 2013). The Apple 1 sold
for $666.66 in the Bay area (Corbis, Psihoyos, 2014).
Steve Jobs had a very successful career that began in the 1970s up
until 2011, when he passed away. Because of his career, he had impacted
technology users all over the world by converting users to Apple. Steve had a
major force on the economy, society, and the users daily lives (Wittkower,
2011). Due to his impact on technology users all over the world, Apple users
laid flowers and messages outside Apple stores after Steves passing (Clark,
Woo, Mattoli, 2011). Steve was an inspiration to our generation and
developed products that appealed to every generation (Clark, Woo, Mattoli,
2011). At the Apple store in Chicago, Apple users left notes on the glass
doors with burning candles in memory of Steve Jobs (Clark, Woo, Mattoli,
2011). Chris Schiappacasse visited the Apple headquarters in California,
where their flags were raised at half-staff (Clark, Woo, Mattoli, 2011). Steve
donated Apples first computers to Chriss elementary school during the
1980s (Clark, Woo, Mattoli, 2011). During the week of Steves passing,

iPhone users gathered at a local park in San Francisco for an iPhone vigil
(Clark, Woo, Mattoli, 2011). The most productive chapter in his career was
towards the end when Apple sold a record-breaking amount of products
compared to other digital industries center (Kane and Fowler, 2011). Before
Jobs entered the technology world, no technology products were integrated
(International Business Times, 2011). Computers, music players, and phones
are now built into one device (International Business Times, 2011). For
everything users do there is a mobile application for it and touches every
aspect of daily lives (International Business Times, 2011).
By all accounts, and with proven results, Steve Jobs developed an
industry that is forever changed. Steves passing affected Apple users all
over the world and it was apparent the week of his death. Steve not only
developed many products, but he changed the way technology users see
computers, phones, and mp3 players. Although Steve Jobs is no longer with
us, his legacy continues in his products that will continue to develop in the
future.
