COMPUTER IN EDUCATION
ASSIGNMENT 1
TITTLE: COMPUTER AS TOOL, TUTOR AN
TUTEE
INTRODUCTION
Computer is the main technology used in education nowadays because of
the new education paradigm that spurs the teachers to make the students
integrate with the ICT. Computer plays many roles in education which it
can be separated under three; computer as tool, computer as tutor and
computer as tutee. The use of computers in todays education should be
more emphasized because of the demand in the 21st century skills.
Teachers and students should be more integrated with the ICT
Computer as tool
The computer as tool can be divided into a few sections which are
information tool, communication tool, constructive tool, co-constructive
tool and situating tool. Computer can provide a lot of information in many
forms for example; text, graphics, sound and video (Information tool).
Computer can be used to manipulate information, visualizing one
understands and building new knowledge such as Microsoft Word itself
allows users to organize and present their ideas in fascinating format
(constructive tool). On ways of co-constructive is the use of the electronic
whiteboard where students may post notices to a shared document/
whiteboard. Students can also co-edit the similar documents from home.
As for situating tool, the computer can create 3-D images on display to
give the user the feeling that are situated in a real environment. For
example, the flight simulator which places the user in a simulated flying
situation.
CONCLUSION
To recapitulate, computing will play an increasing important role in todays
education. However, not many people have discovered how great the role
would be, or precisely what form it will finally take. Thus, it is up to us to
keep upgrading these systems and also to make sure teachers will not be
irreplaceable for computers. Computers have various applications that can
help to ease learning process such as computer-based instruction,
computer-assisted instruction and computer-assisted learning.
