KSA One: Apply Business Knowledge in the Context of Professional Employment

This KSA requires the utilization of knowledge from courses Ive taken throughout my time as a
student at Towson University. In my professional employment I will be able to effectively use
knowledge from all different subjects I have studied, including supply chain management,
human resources, operations management, etc. In order to demonstrate this KSA I chose only
the work in which I had successfully selected the concepts appropriate to the given situation,
efficiently demonstrated my knowledge of those concepts, and successfully applied that
knowledge in the context of a real business professional employment environment. Following
these evaluation criteria I selected a piece titled Managing Catopsys International Structure,
which you will find attached to this page, as evidence of my ability to apply my business
knowledge in the context of professional employment.
Description of the Report
In the academic year 2014-15 I was required to comprise a report for Global Operations
Management, a course I studied at Middlesex University, London. This report demonstrates my
knowledge of all the topics covered in the course, as well as my ability to hypothetically apply
those skills in an analysis of a real business environment. This piece is the continuation of a
previous report in which I describe SAS Catopsys, a technological startup company in France,
which I selected as the focus of my report, as well as their current internationalization strategy. In
this report I was asked to build on the previous report by utilizing the knowledge I had gained in
this class and other previous classes to develop an internationalization strategy, as well as a
strategy for managing the new international structure of the company. Using the relevant
knowledge and chapters from the text I analyzed the current market and decided that the
company should internationalize through foreign direct investment, in order to increase their
market share and grow their business. In addition, I suggested an internationalization strategy for
the future, which can be used for long term location decisions, technology and knowledge
transfer, and many other components of Catopsys business environment.
Significance to KSA 1
I chose this report because it was fundamental in my development of this KSA, it taught me how
to synthesize data from many different sources; it also required the utilization of knowledge that
I had obtained from several courses that I had taken. Developing this report was a critical step in
gaining the ability to extrapolate and inter-relate theory and practice. This report demonstrates
my ability to construct conceptual frameworks to solve problems of an organization in the
existing business environment. Completing this report was very difficult for me, but it allowed
me to study Catopsys business environment in depth, and once I had that understanding of the
company I was able to apply concepts and theories in a comprehensive report. The process of
applying concepts to a real life company in real time gave me insight to what it is like operating
as a manager, and crucial decision making.
Future Application

This experience changed the way that I view the decision making process as an
employee. I now have the skills necessary to truly understand not only the
significance of each issue, but the scope as well. Understanding the scope will allow
me to create a solution that is inclusive of every aspect of the problem, not only
those aspects that present themselves first. I believe this skill makes me a valuable
member to any team because I will be able to fully understand the strategy of your
company, and apply my knowledge in the best way to help you achieve your goals.
